Wow, moving from a Voodoo5 to a GFX5900... Now if you would move from your space heat... um, CRT montor to an LCD, you'd be in the 21st century with the rest of us. 😛

An incredible quality LCD still cannot compare to a Good quality CRT in gaming. The only thing you gain with an LCD is desk space and the fact that it throws off much less heat.

I know some people swear by them and thats their perogitive, because for what they are, their pretty good. Just not great.

Congrats on your 5900 purchase Vian. I've had mine for about 5 months now and its terrific. Fabulous even. 🙂

EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention. I recessed my 19" monitor flush into a wall. So the thickness of my monitor is actually 1/2 of an inch. Just thought you might enjoy that tidbit.

Now the only thing to complain about is how much power it consumes, nice.

Anyone now how those bfg cards overclock? Im about to buy one from fry's. Good memory?

i picked one up last week to replace my 9700pro. my fx is running perfectly stable at 475/950. aside from the size of the damn thing i am quite happy with it, and my wife is really liking the 9700pro over her old gf3, so i win all the way around 🙂

Reference the CRT thread in General Hardware where someone developed a detached retina because of using a CRT. Eyestrain baby, ain't it grand? Not to mention the reason most ATers wear glasses or contacts, because of the good ol' CRT!

The I've looked at UT2k3 w/ details cranked, side by side, a Samsung LCD and a Sony FW900 CRT. The Samsung's PQ was just better. It uses a 1:1 digital signal, of course it'll look more clear. Keep in mind, this was PQ... moving the mouse cost the Samsung some major points.... But 16ms LCDs have changed that. Only recently has the LCD been able to finally become King of the Hill in all home apps.

BTW, I like my retina's right where they are.

funny, i dont strain my eyes w/ crt, and i am pretty much on my ps 12-14 hrs a day; i actually take my glasses OFF when using pc.

one extreme case does not a reason make.. nor is that a difinitive answer for anything. who is to say he didnt have problems in the firstplace that an lcd would not have exposed as well?

Quick question about this card (BFG Asylum 5900). Does anyone know if all of the retail boxes come with Call of Duty or only certain ones?

Only certain ones... and actually very few.
newegg.com had a killer deal of the BFG 5900nu w/ CoD for $175 shipped but its gone now. I snagged one while the getting was good.

Did you know:

-Some people (about 1 in 4000) may have seizures or blackouts triggered by light flashes or patterns, such as while watching TV or playing video games even if they have never had a seizure before.
-Anyone who has had a seizure, loss of awareness, or other symptom linked to an epileptic condition should consult a doctor before playing a video game.
-Watch for the following symptoms

convulsions; eye or muscle twitching; loss of awareness; altered vision; involuntary movements; disorentation

-To reduce the likelihood of a seizure when playing video games:

1. Sit or stand as far from the screen as possible.
2. Play video games on the smallest available television screen.
3. Do not play if you are tired or need sleep.
4. Play in a well-lit room.
5. Take a 10-15 minute break every hour.

I guess you're gonna make lots of changes in your life now, huh? Have fun.

Hey Vian, all that stuff you just posted is BECAUSE OF CRTS!!!!!! The very nature of them is stressful on our eyes and our minds. Geez, you're slower than a Celeron.

You need to start using the " 😉 ", that way people won't think you are serious! 😉

LCD's can be deadly as well! Why, a good ol family dispute can turn ugly, someone reaches for the old LCD screen and slams someone in the head with it.
Thats probably about as common as a detached retina. 😀
