Got a 35% off "exclusive" gift from Dell - Need Advice for LCD.

I just got an "exclusive" gift from Dell via postal mail for 35% off $250 or more (exclude tax and shipping). I'm thinking of buying a 17" or 19" LCD, but there're so many choices. Any recommendations? Prices below INCLUDE 35% OFF + TAX (not shipping, might be free).

What is it used for: Mainly in the following order - (1) Web browsing (2) Television (3) Gaming
What is important: sharpness, clarity, accurate color reproduction, minimal or no ghosting because of 2 and 3, no sparkling effect, and whatever else that's imporant in LCD. And most importantly - quality control (i.e. no dead pixel).

What's the best for 17" and 19"? Cost does matter as I'm trying to get it for as cheap as possible without scarificing quality 😀 .

17":
ViewSonic VA702b 17-inch Black LCD Monitor - $163
ViewSonic VA712b 17-inch Black Multimedia LCD Monitor - $170
Dell UltraSharp 1707FP Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand - $171
Planar PL1700M-BK 17-inch Black Multimedia LCD Monitor - $174
Planar PL1700-BK 17-inch LCD Monitor - $177
Sony SDM-S75DB StylePro 17-inch Black Flat Panel LCD Display - $184

19":
ViewSonic VA902b 19-inch Black LCD Monitor - $184
Planar PE1901 19-inch LCD Monitor ? Dell Only - $191
ViewSonic VA912b 19-inch Black Multimedia LCD Monitor - $197
Planar E196FP 19-inch Flat Panel Monitor - $197
Plarnar PL1910M-BK 19-inch Multimedia LCD Monitor - $216
Dell UltraSharp 1907FP 19-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand - $219

After some searching for specs and reviews, I narrow it down to the following:

17":
Dell UltraSharp 1707FP (DVI,8ms)
Sony SDM-S75DB StylePro 17 (DVI,12ms)

19:"
ViewSonic VA912b 19-inch (DVI,8ms)
Dell UltraSharp 1907FP 19-inch (DVI,8ms)

I really like the Dell 17" and 19" but according to reviewers, it has a limited horiz. and vert. angles. The Sony 17" seems good and has very good viewing angles but no extra features. I wasn't able to find much info about the ViewSonic. Because I often watch television on my PC, I think I would go with the Sony or the ViewSonic because they've greater viewing angles. What do guys think?

skip on the 17"

focus on the 19 or 20.1.

more real estate space = better browsing/tv experience.

how often do you watch on your PC at an offset angle instead of directly in front of it?

Viewing angle isn't too important since I mostly watch fullscreen straight on (90degrees). If viewing angle isn't a problem, what monitor 17", 19", and 20" gives the best image quality with very little or no ghosting? Features isn't too important. I think I'll drop by Best Buy and a Dell Kiosk to check out a few LCD. But any recommendations is appreicated.

Are you sure that coupon is not $35 off 250 for electronics and accessories.......and 35% off Dimension and Inspirion orders over $999?

I would definately get that Dell 19" montor over the Viewsonic 19" you narrowed it down to.

I'm pretty sure that Viewsonic monitor is a TN panel monitor, so it can't display 16.7 million colors and should have worse viewing angles and contrast.

EDITED: Just went to the site www.dell.com/22years and found that it's 35% of all electronics $250 or higher. I probably won't use the 35% off Dell PC and Laptop so I might give it away (expires on June 19, 2006).

Save 35% off DimensionTM and InspironTM system orders over $999
(before tax, shipping and handling) with coupon code that appears on your flyer.

35% off any Electronics and Accessories orders $250 or more
(before tax, shipping and handling) with coupon code that appears on your flyer.

Offers valid 5/19 - 6/19/20061

I got it about 3-5 days ago. The 2405FPW is actually currently $759.20 - 35% off + 8.8% tax + free shipping = $464 COOOOOOL.
You mean Ebayer actually sell these coupon codes, that's a first?

You a small business owner, per chance? I got the same type of card. What is the difference between an Analog Flat Panel and a Digital one?

I've no idea how but it arrived in a envelope from dell with my name on it. The only thing I did was registered my Dell 700m with them for warranty, but that was it. I can't say I know a lot about DVI and the older D something. DVI is digital and the latter is analogy (requires Digital<>Analog Conversion) so their might be picture quality degradation. But a poorly implemented DVI can have worse quality. DVI requires a DVI capable video-card. It's a white connector at the back of your video card. If it's integrated video, then you probably don't have it.

Hmmm, I'm not so certain about the 35% off electronics now. I went to add to the cart 2405FPW as a test and applied the coupon code, but it came up as $35 OFF. The card had a link to the following site: http://www.dell.com/22years . It clear says 35% off electronics. I've to verify that once I get home. This is not good....

Yea, I think the site is mistyped.

I'm pretty sure the actual coupon says $35 off $250. Let us know for sure.

I got one of those coupons in the mail today, and it is $35 off for Electronics & Accessories over $250... not 35% off... HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I actually would skip on the 19'' and focus on a 17'' or 20''

The 17'' and 19'' use the same panel and share the same native resolution of 1280 x 1024. So your not getting more real estate with the 19'' just blown up pixels.
