03, week 34. wpmw

i guess this puts it lower grade than a A,J,and K. but its still a B core, and its DLT so should run at 1.5 volts. i bought this with a km400 chipset, the newegg bundle, and don't know how much overclocking room i have with board, but i will test it out late tonight.

I also received from Newegg an AMD 1800+ with stepping code NIUHB, 1.5V (retail package). Haven't received my motherboard, but will post messages as I learn about it's overclocking capabilities. My motherboard is an Aopen AK79G-VN.

It gives some insight into the AMD codes. I ran the script referenced in the article (click on the word "this"). It appears that my 1800+ is a downgraded 2400+ . Interesting article.

i ran the script but it says nothing about it being downgraded. but the xbit site says the 8th and 9th digits represents the initial speed. mines are 25. can be a downgraded 2500 though.

My BIOS will let me change the FSB, but I can't find any way to change the multipier. Could it be locked on the processor, or a BIOS limitation? I have FSB currently set at 133. Motherboard is Aopen AK79G-VN, with Phoenix Award Bios.

i think only nforce2 mobos unlocks the processor. up the fsb. not sure if you have pci-agp locks, if not, don't expect to overclock far.
i think my via board does not have locks, oh well.

I changed the FSB to 166. Multiplier is fixed at 11.5 (can't change it). Set RAM at FSB x2 = 333 (I have DDR 333, 2700). System is running stable at 1.9 GHz. Temperature reported by AIDA32 and AOpen Ezclock is 41 ro 43 C. This in only 1 or 2 degrees more than the temperature when speed is at 133x11.5 = 1.53 GHz. AK79G-VN motherboard has a CPU temperature sensor, which I used for readings. Not sure of the motherboard sensor accuracy.

Using stock heatsink/fan that came with retail AMD 1800+.

my results

ran 3dmark2k1 330, got a 1110, from stock amd1800 with retail fan/hs. mem at 133, cl2.
got 1334 with mem at 166 cl2.5, cpu fsb at 166. reports as a 1916mhz.
dont know how stable this is since i ran just one test and looked for any artifacts.
bios reported a couple of C degree greater with overclock.
pretty much same results as ski22. limited by my motherboard. most definitely this cpu can go higher.
good chip. the successor to the highly overclockable 1700+ jiuhb. im sure the nixhb can go higher.

edit: tried fsb at 200, but mobo didn't like. guess i only have the pci/agp locks at 100,133, and 166,mhz.
