topic says it all.
I like to play games.
My $260 order for xfx 7900gt is pushed to 7/2006, so I'm going to cancel it.
MY new rig is complete, only video card is missing.

Any suggestions apprecited. I'd take something that unlocks as well.

Thanks

I take it that you're looking for a PCI-Ex card since you were getting the 7900GT. Why not get a 7900GT at a different dealer if the one is backordered where you were getting it?

I know that $260 for the 7900GT is a pretty great deal considering the darn card has gone up in price since it first came out. Newegg still has a couple 7900GT cards in stock for $329-339.

I was just looking at available cards and it seems like there's slim pickings.. 7800GTX for around $410 (maybe too high). You might want to look for a 6800GS for under $200, a 6800GT for just a bit over $200 or go to an ATI card such as the x1800XT card for under $300. It's almost impossible to find a 7800GT card now and the 7900GT cards are almost out of stock everywhere. Good luck, I know I'm going to be in that boat shortly too cause I haven't upgraded yet.. so maybe I'll hold off a bit longer til stock increases.. or just go with ATI's card anyway (goin for x1900XTX myself probably) cause it's cheaper and just as good.

if you can get a 7900GT for a little more money then by all means go for it. if you can't, look in FS/T for some deals on some older generation cards.

I was just thinking about the new 7600GTs.. I have heard alot of good things about them. The clock speeds are pretty high too and the price is right.

for new cards, 7600GTs are excellent. However, an older used card (say, 6800GT) will still do you better, and for less money.

I say get the eVGA N-553AX 7600GT or the XFX 7600GT XXX. The eVGA is $164AR, the XFX $159AR. Both are moderately OC'd and will beat a 6800Ultra in most games. Even at reference clocks (560/1400 vs 580/1500 for eVGA) 7600GT at is able to edge out an X850XT.

Not exactly ~$200, but really good options for the money.

Would it? Are there any benches of this because I can't find any.

By the way OP, the same thing happened to me! Screw Dell!

Well, most of the reviews show the 7600GT ranks in between the 7800GT and 6800GS (PCI-e version), which in itself is about the same as a 6800GT at stock, and a 6800U if you have a factory OC'd version, which are typically the ones you find the most.

Here's one review which pretty much shows where it stands. It's a good card that you can snag for about $170-$175AR at a few places.
