I need semi legal advice maybe someone been in this cituation. I switched my business from dba to s corporation. I applied for tax id number last friday thru service that charged me $20 and promise that i will get it in 3-4 waited till today and nothing so i did it agan but thru irs.gov for free(should have done that the first time). My problem is i got the number that was supposed to come by yestserday i got it today in the fax today and one i got today thru the website. Now i got 2 number what do i do? Do i just call irs and cancel one number?

Learn some patience. How are you supposed to run a business if you are asking for legal advice on ATOT and can't get this part right. I think you should call them and tell them you want to cancel both.

wha?

you make no sense to me.

you are aware that the "s corp" is an "election" that you must sign and have to be approved by the IRS. the number that you got online is just your tax ID number. you should ideally have that in hand before you send in the s corp election form.

IRS won't let anyone file a duplicate of the same information. (i've tried.)

.... english please. gosh it's stuff like this that makes me wonder about the people incorporating...

sorry let me rephrase, all i have is the number, all other documents are being filed soon. I am talking about tax id number that i got from irs

i'm going to "guess" that the company you hired to get your EIN either just hadn't done it yet (via online or over the phone) or they faxed it in, which has about a 3-4 business day turnaround.

which means when they go to get the number, it will show up as a duplicate, if the information is entered in exactly the same.

if for some reason you wind up with two tax ID's, you need to contact the IRS about getting rid of one of them. enjoy being on hold for a while.

you should ideally contact the company that was supposed to obtain your number for you and see if they've done anything or run into any problems with it.
