I got 2 pm's from this guy lx6350 about how he would like to kill me and rip open my guts with a chain saw and then linked a really bad youtube video to it. He was talking like I was a girl, so maybe he got the user name wrong. I tried to send him a pm back but he doesn't accept pm's can a MOD look into this?

Thanks

See this thread.

I repeat what I said in that thread. I'm sorry that you were a victim of this.

Ignore it.

Looks to be the typical *trash PM* prank that some troublesome/immature past banned member will randomly send to cause trouble.

I'll send a PM to admin/senior Mod and they'll nuke that account.

We are actively working on eliminating this issue. The account you mentioned above has been de-activated.

I actually have a relevant comment! Would the transition to the new board software allow you to prevent this from happening in the future? I can't help notice that this is a fairly regular occurance.

I had this happen a while ago and just blocked the user and didn't even bother getting him banned.

I figured if he was a regular user then getting him banned would just bring him back with another account to spam my inbox, so I figured if I just blocked him he wouldn't know and would just keep sending his junk into internet oblivion.

This is one of the features we are looking into.

Unless it is an important public figure, especially the President, I doubt the FBI would worry much with some troll threatening to kill posters in a forum.

If it isn't a federal crime, then I am sure most localities have laws against it.

It may depend on the medium of the threat to be a federal crime. I really don't know.

Threatening to kill someone can be a crime. But there is some threashhold like the prosecutor must prove that they had the means and the intent to actually carry it out. I'm sure there's an *official term* for that threashhold, I just can't think of it now.

The threat crime would usually be prosecuted under local law.

However, if it's communicated interstate (internet) it's an FBI matter.

No, I don't see how they would be interested, particular since (s)he appears to choose random people and has sent many of these PMs without ever exhibing any means or intent to actually follow through.

Here's a link to some info on one of the first "internet threat" cases. Linky.
