For a Tag? No. I think Tags are overrated. Are you willing to buy used?

My mother in law bought me this one. It's a nice watch, but I would never pay this much for a watch out of my own pocket.

Look for a used Omega Aqua Terra watch. Pure elegance and rugged to boot! You can also get a speedy pro around that price point.

I'm not sure how important it is to you to buy brand new, but you can get a 99% new condition used watch for about 50-60% msrp. Check out sites like timezone.com and watchuseek.com

so as much as i 'd love to upgrade my computer, i can't. :p

Your uncle wants you to? Or your uncle is buying it for you?

If you have a house/apartment - buy furniture. Infinitely better gift than a watch.

seems pretty clear that his uncle is buying it for him...

If you're thinking about spending $1400 on a watch you need to get your head examined. I mean, it's your money, knock yourself out...but holy ******.

Buy a used Rolex from a reputable dealer or off of Timezone.

Why? You get much more bang for your buck buying used and most people who wear this kind of watch treat them with care. Its likely you won't even be able to tell its been used.

Why a Rolex? While there are better brands, there are few that hold their value quite as well. This is partly due to their quality and partly due to their being a status symbol. If you're forced to buy something you can't afford (guessing here), you might as well make it something that you can get your money back out of.

Do some research and pick a desirable model and it might actually appreciate over the years. Gotta love being paid to wear a quality watch for many years...

$1400 would get me several nice additions to my watch collection... My tastes run to the vintage side of the market, so here are some $1000+ suggestions:

Jaeger Le Coultre Military Issue

Enicar Sherpa Jet GMT

Bulova Accutron Spaceview

Zodiac Aerospace GMT

wow those are pretty ugly
But unique and or historically significant... Simply a matter of taste anyway...

I just read up on Bulova, and it has quite a history there. If you can manage to keep passing one on through your family, it would be a nice investment. But I'm talking 3 or 4 generations minimum.

Please don't tell me ANYONE is stupid enough to be impressed by a watch. It astounds me that any male on earth could think a woman would have anything to do with him because of his watch.
If this was true, Rollex would be the biggest company on earth.

You've obviously never been to LA.

A well-dressed, well-accessorised (aka $1400 watch), well-spoken guy can get just about anything he wants. We aren't talking about marriage material women here. We are talking about the wanna-be actress from Milwaukee who just arrived here last week and is 1 "audition" away from soft core porn.

What good is a $1400 watch when it would take an expert to see it's actualy a $1400 watch?

I agree.

Beside who even looks at a watch/ or wears one?
Not me, I look at the Nextel to see the time.

I used to keep breaking my watches, and stopped wearing them.

Tell your fiance's parents not to be so cheap and add a couple of thousand dollars for a rolex. Tag is played out, but a rolex transcend time. Actually, the value goes up every year.
