Gore-tex really that great?

I'm wondering is gore-tex really that great? I'm sure its above many but I'm sure there are other materials out there that rival it. I was looking at a pair of Burton gloves for snowboarding, but all my friend could say was how Gore-tex made gloves are always better. What say you guys?

its great for keeping moisture out, weg gloves = cold hands so yea its good but not the be all and end all,

ive never had a pair of gortex gloves, i get ones that have a removeable liner. never had issues unless it is the zub zero temp range, then i either wear mittens of use hand warmers

Well, what happens when your palms start sweating? If moisture is kept out, isn't it also kept in?

I have used Gore_Tex equipped gloves,and Boots;

You want to stay dry,pay the extra little money.

The Gore-Tex does let persperation{sp?} {Sweat,LOL} Out.

I refuse to wear cheap boots in the winter any longer,either Snowmobile type pack boots,
with a "felt" liner,and rubber bottom;or my Wolverine Gore-Tex work boots.

Yes, Gore-Tex is well worth the money. Look at http://www.rei-outlet.com, they usually have some good deals on gloves with Gore-Tex liners. I got a pair there for about $40 a few years ago.

We're issued with Gore-tex equipment (Parka, jacket, boots, overalls) and it is AWESOME. SO warm, you can stand in the rain all day and not get wet, and snow doesn't touch this stuff.

goretex is one of many types of waterproof breathable materials on the market. it is basically a membrane that allows for water vapor on the inside of the material to be transported to the exterior, while keeping liquid water on the other side from entering the inside.

goretex is probably not as important in gloves as it is in a jacket. gloves that are marketed as "waterproof breathable" will suffice without the high price that goretex brings.

and as a sidenote, goretex xcr, gore's top goretex material is bested by eVENT performance wise.

and horus, goretex does not have any intrinsic insulating properties.

I have Goretex pants and a jacket I use for riding. They are great for blocking the wind and keeping water out.
