Hear me out. We are currently facing what could be a huge economic recession, the sh!t is piling up higher in the Middle East, and the military is getting it up the a$$. Now, the majority of Americans associate all successes and failures to the president currently in charge. e.g. Bill Clinton. Let's be honest, did he really do anything for the economy or the employment rate or the other thousands of things the majority of Americans think he did? Of course not. But since he was president, he got the people's credit for it.
Now, if we put Gore in the Oval Office, all these inevitable disasters coming will be blamed on him, America will grumble and criticize him and kick him out, and vote for the other party. By that time things will have settled down and the future president can take credit for all of the mess Al Gore had swept into a pile but was unable to "bag". He'll be voted into office a second term, and America will most probably vote for the candidate from that president's party. Not to mention, wouldn't the majority of Americans be impressed by Bush if he graciously backed off? He'd be seen as a man of great character, a selfless problem solver, and a shoe-in by the time 2004 comes along.
