DEBATE BACKFIRE: GORE CAUGHT IN HIGH SCHOOL FIB? PRINCIPAL SAYS 'NEW LAB EQUIPMENT' CAUSED CLASS CRUNCH

Vice President Al Gore was caught in a High School fib during Tuesday night's nationally televised presidential debate when he claimed a Florida public school was so overcrowded a student was forced to stand during science class!

"They can't squeeze another desk in for her so she has to stand during class," Gore explained while telling the story of 15-year-old Kailey Ellis of Sarasota High. "I want the federal government, consistent with local control and new accountability, to make improvement of our schools the number one priority so Kailey will have a desk and can sit down in a classroom where she can learn."

Sarasota High School principal Daniel Kennedy on Wednesday morning called Gore's debate story 'misleading at best'.

"His facts are inacurate," Kennedy declared on WFLA 970 am in Tampa. "There was $100,000 worth of lab equipment waiting to be unpacked in the room, that's why the room was crowded. We have no students standing."

MORE

Gore was passed a letter by Kailey's father who explained that the restaurant he manages was chosen by the vice president's staff to prepare food yesterday morning for Air Force II as it flew Gore from Florida to Boston.

Edit:: Yes, this came from the Drudge Report, so take it with a grain of salt. However, it would be difficult to get the facts incorrect in this case, so it's absolutely believable.

abracadabra1,

The point is - (at least what I take from it) is that Gore has been caught in SEVERAL of these little "fibs", which indicates there's probably a lot more we don't know about. This isn't the only case, and it's very blatant and part of a high profile debate (which he certainly prepared for).

This is unacceptable to me, though if I were a Gore supporter I'd probably play it down too.

Gore also said that all of his kids went to public school does anyone believe this?

Also about that can collector:

Gore apparently had organized much of his plan of attack around the woman from Des Moines, Iowa, Winnifred Skinner, who had told Gore that she had to spend several hours a day, seven days a week, scavenging for cans to sell in order to pay for the prescription drugs she needs. In fact, according to the Des Moines Register, Mrs. Skinner, who refuses to travel by air, was driven from Iowa to Massachusetts by the Gore Campaign, along with her poodle, in a Winnebago, so he could use her as a prop to make his point about prescription drugs. In his final 2 minutes, Gore said:

"She came all the way from Iowa in a Winnebago, with her poodle, in order to attend here tonight. I want to tell her I'm going to fight for a prescription drug benefit for all seniors and I'm going to fight for the people of this country, for a prosperity that benefits all."

In view of the fact that, by now, Gore and his campaign staff know full well that Mrs. Skinner is not in need, holding her up as an example of victimhood might backfire. In fact, the Des Moines Register, in an article published September 30th, reported that Mrs. Skinner was, in fact, far from a destitute old lady. Her son is a well-off heating contractor who lives on a ranch. The embarrassed son told the Register that he had a 900 square foot apartment at his ranch that his mother would be most welcome to occupy. However, she won't. According to the son Earl King:

"My mother won't accept money from me and my wife, and it's taken us some time to accept that."

Besides, if she cannot afford medicine, why the fsck does she have a poodle???

I'm sure Gore's bores will be here shortly to explain away these latest Gorbasms. nd is right -- it's not the importance of each little lie, it's the sum total that is worrisome. We need only look at Clinton to see what the problem might evolve into.

You know, at first, this attitude just pissed me off. Now, it worries me. I've heard this over, and over again. "It's okay, Bore only lies to prove his points." As if lying suddenly becomes an accepted practice just because it's part of an illustration?

Bore lies constantly. The list grows every single day. He is even worse than Slick Willy. Wake up, people. If he'll lie to us when it isn't even really necessary, what do you think is going to happen if he gets in to office?

ohhh so true red, couldnt agree with you more on that, mccain was certainly the better man, better than any of the other candidates that are currently running. but ohh well, control is the thing parties value more. control on the people control over their people.

Are Russ, fact is all politicians lie. Neither Bush or Gore would have been chosen by their respective party machines, & the corresponding lobbyists, backroom boys & beaurocrats, they are both beholden to, if they were honest.

Now if it seems one polie is getting cought out lieing more than another polie, it just means the other polie is a better lier.

How many students does the teacher teach in that classroom? Why didn't the teacher make an appearance? Answers: The class probably had way too many kids, and the teacher would have mentioned it. The principal is being told by the Superintendent of Schools to get the "truth" out because the Superintendant reports, probably, to the county commissioners. I'm guessing, but I'm sure The Druggy didn't get it right. He rarely does. Gore also got his facts from the father, who may have been embellishing his story slightly.

Carville lies 'cause it's lying season,
Clinton lies to cover treason,
Albert Gore lies for no apparent reason.

brandc,

Yep. I'm just wondering why the media isn't getting all over Gore for being such a chronic liar. It's not like he was unaware of the facts like some of you are defending. This was a well-rehearsed debate. They had focus-grouped everything he said practically, and spent a lot of time on exactly what they would say.

chess9,

you are pushing assumptions to deny fact and that doesn't work. Gore is addicted to lying. He'll say and do anything for himself and for his party. That kind of person seldom makes choices in the best interests of others. Any idea what that will mean for the humble american taxpayer, if this hollow shell of a human being is elected?

Red Dawn,

I get the vague sense you don't like what the republican party has become. Ah perhaps I'm just misinterpreting you. ;)

JellyB:

Well, they are all liars. It's a genetic defect. The Human Genome Project will soon find it I'm sure. We'll be able to identify kids with this terrible gene at birth and separate them from the rest of the population. Maybe Texas is where they should go...but California is a definite second choice. Canada might take them cause they have such a shortage of crazy people.

Anyway, I'm sure the basic point is true. The class was overcrowded. Equipment my ass.

You should be here in Florida. The public schools are a joke. Some teachers have 30 kids in a class. Ask some of these other people from Florida. I'm home schooling the last of my kids. She's already a Duke TIP scholar at 12. She's why I believe in evolution. Thank God for genetic mutations! :p

chess9,

I'm no idealist and do realize politicians lie everyday to win votes. Yet that doesn't excuse Bore's lie in this specific instance. Add up all of Albert?s half-truths, exaggerations, little-white-lies, fibs, misrepresentations and fallacies and you?d break your calculator my friend.

As for FLA, well there are some good fishing spots down there I?m told as well as some great golf courses. Perhaps I?ll end up there someday. How?s Jeb doin? btw? ;) I heard he just signed an information technology bill that looks pretty good though I know little about it.

JB:

Fishing is Florida is awesome! Ditto for golf, but you need a lot more money to play golf. We go to the Keys about once a year to get away from the stress and just stick a pole in the water. In less than 5 minutes you have dinner.

I'm lukewarm on Jeb. I do think his elevator goes to the top, however. He's much smarter than his older brother. I would not be surprised to see him run for President. He's pretty conservative, just like GW, but a much, much better speaker.

Red Dawn: I'm getting really tired of seeing your constant "McCain was the better candidate" bullshiz everywhere I go here. HE LOST!!!! GET OVER IT!!! He wasn't stopped by the evil GOP leadership, he was stopped by his own poor judgement, misguided attacks against the GOP base (CHristians) and lack of impulse control. He advocates "reforms" that will hand unprecedented power to the media and the unions. He is a fool and the PEOPLE rejected him.

Gore is a worse liar than Clinton. Clinton lies to stay out of trouble. Gore lies just because. It's gotten so bad that the media is starting to not cover-up for him because they know THEIR credibility (HA!) is gonna go down with him.

The GOP are a bunch of pathetic cowards who have forsaken principles in the futile attempt to get the media to stop beating them up and lying about them.

This year, there was NO candidate that I liked. I'm only supporting Bush because Gore would be a disaster for this country that we may not be able to recover from. Only you people performing visual inspections of your colons can't see the writing on the wall.

GORE IS SUCK!!!

Dirk - I agree. Red Dawn, get over it.. McCain LOST.. The majority of republicans rejected his ideas.. The reason Bush will lose is because stupid people will vote for Gore because people like you keep ripping Bush.. Even though you probably agree with most of what Bush says you still trash him..

Crimson, poor judgement maybe. Misguided (but, ooo perhaps truthful?) attacks vs. the religious right? Impulse control LOL! The media all but convinced everyone that if McCain was president and russia angered him, he would nuke the ex-commie bastards! IMO if he truly had a serious temper problem it would have arose long before this campaign. Also I really don't know what you mean by "He advocates "reforms" that will hand unprecedented power to the media and the unions.". What were those, I don't remember them??

Somewhere I heard that habitual criminals under inteterigation will lie even when they would be better off telling the truth. I?m not sure why this comes to mind now???

What?s all this McCain talk? Keyes was the best choice?.
