This just breaks my heart to wake up to this morning. It's unbelievable how much Gord Downie and The Hip are ingrained into Canadian culture. I paid a fortune to go to the last show they did here in London as my wife's had never been to one of their concerts and I would do it again every day.
When I take my kids camping we have a tradition where every time we drive down the last road of the trip we put on Wheat Kings and let that take us the rest of the way to the lake. The last time we did that was the day he announced he had cancer. Literally just after we finished down the road my wife called to tell me. I actually started bawling like a baby at the concert when I was interviewed by Macleans Magazine to tell that story. This morning I find myself again a little teary eyed.
