GoPro usability question

So, we're getting ready to make a cross country drive, and the only electronics I'll have is my Samsung GS4 and my GoPro Hero 3+.

My idea is to set it up "dash-cam" ish, take it with us when we stop to see stuff, and use it as a general purpose video camera. The only problem, of course, is storage space.

Is it better practice to just buy a ton of MicroSD cards for the trip? Or could I pop the MicroSD into my phone and then upload the previous days videos to Dropbox, wipe the card, and keep using the same MicroSD?

Might be a stupid question...I'm a little new to all of this.

Thanks for any advice.

How much do you plan on recording?

My HD Hero2 gave me something like over an hour of recording time at 1080p with a 16 GB card -- maybe more, I forget since I haven't used it in a long-time and recently sold it.

A 64 GB card, supposedly, gets you about 7 hours or more on a HERO3 (at 1080-30) -- varies depending which version you have, according to GoPro support.

One card and a laptop to off-load/back-up things would be enough for me, but not sure what you have in mind.
