Want to replace my GoPro, which has been garbage from day 1.
Literally the worst consumer product I’ve purchased in 20 years.

Have you guys ever explored value priced action cam alternatives?

Which model and what are you using it for?
I use a Sony AS20 with go pro mounts for my motorcycle.
However, I would not recommend adopting any thing that can't use gopro ecosystem.

A cellphone duct taped to your head should be good enough.
Go to a thrift and chances are you'll find a VHS tape camera for cheap. Duct tape to helmet, profit!!

I have HERO. No longer charges.
For me

Assuming you don't want to bother with this...
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/GoPro+Hero+Battery+Replacement/41783
https://www.amazon.com/quality-replacement-battery-AHDBT-001-1100mAh/dp/B003QRZ7WU

What are you currently using the hero for? Do you need somethignsmall or will anything that fits onto your current mounts be ok?
What about battery life or crap like waterproofing?
If battery life isn't that important, one of the SJCCAMS might be the way to go

The battery is not dead.
The camera does not go into charge mode with the red light.
Red light won't stay on. Camera just turns on into "regular" mode.

Does not have to be small. .
I don't mind getting new mounts.
They are usually cheap on Ebay anyway.
1 hour battery is plenty.
No need for waterproofing

For the third time! which camera do you have??? I have a Hero 3+ Silver, and it does everything I want it to, FOR A SPORT ACTION CAMERA.
The usb charging was a bit wonky from the git go, and besides, ain't nobody got time fo dat. I bought extended life batteries, and an AC charger on Amazon.
There are batteries they claim will last 3 hours, to all day. For $25 I bought a radio transmitter for it. Sounds like you're throwing the baby out with the bath water.

"Action cameras" are a commodity now. Sony, Olympus, Garmin... unknown knock-off.

I gave out some DBPOWER knockoff cams for Christmas (they were on sale), they seem pretty great for the price:

https://www.amazon.com/DBPOWER-1080P-Waterproof-Action-Camera/dp/B01MZ29T0I/

Skip to 5:12 for some comparison footage to the GoPro 3:

$69 shipped gets you an action cam with:

* 14 megapixels
* 1080p video
* Waterproof up to 30 meters
* Built-in Wi-fi (iOS & Android apps)
* Compatible with GoPro & SJCAM mounts
* 90 minutes of recording per battery

Also includes:

* 2 batteries
* Waterproof case & clip
* Multi-function clip
* Bike mount
* Camera clip
* Helmet mount
* 3 belts
* Wiper
* 2 3M stickers
* USB cable

There are some 4K knockoffs if you want that, although for $70 you get a great 1080p cam with a truckload of accessories:

Whoops I'm retarded, I was thinking he had a Session.

I have a Silver 4 and it is great for what I use it for.
