CLEVELAND — Donald Trump’s acceptance speech hit the mark Thursday night, drawing accolades from a number of GOP political insiders who had doubted his competence to lead the Republican ticket this fall.

That’s according to The POLITICO Caucus — a panel of operatives, activists and strategists in 11 battleground states surveyed immediately following Trump’s speech.

...
Republican insiders said Trump’s speech — a forceful indictment of those responsible for what he perceives as a country in decline, along with an assurance that he is uniquely qualified to solve the nation’s ills — made them feel more confident in his candidacy.

“Trump gave a simple message and expanded the Republican Party: law and order, economic populism and defeat the rigged system,” said one Iowa Republican — who, like all respondents, completed the survey anonymously.

“I felt Trump gave a very good speech and struck on issues and policies that people wanted to hear about,” added a Colorado Republican. “His family and friends did an excellent job of showing the softer side of Donald Trump and gave America a good view of his family, which says a lot about him as a person. I think he is absolutely right — this is a movement, not a ‘normal’ campaign. People have had enough of tired politicians. I think they are going to give him the chance to run the country.”

Added a Pennsylvania Republican: “He talked to the people he needed to very effectively. The speech defined the race and made him a voice for the people — something he should have done months ago.”
...
Fifty-nine percent of Republicans picked Trump’s acceptance speech as the “defining moment” of the convention, far more than the 28 percent who said Cruz’s televised snub defined the week.
...

Not only did Trump kill it, but even some of the usual lib MSNBC detractors agreed. Take Joe Scarsborough for example, who said Trump's "did what he was supposed to do" and that his speech was something "millions and millions of in Middle America have been waiting to hear for a very long time":
http://www.politico.com/story/2016/07/trump-convention-speech-media-226010?lo=ap_b1
... I think Donald Trump did what Donald Trump was supposed to do. I don't know if they expected sunshine and flowers," Scarborough remarked Friday morning, mocking those who said, "‘It was a dark speech.'"

"We have been saying for two months now with everybody's low approval ratings that you're not going to win the presidency, you're going to disqualify the other candidate. We have been saying it for months now. Everybody acting so shocked that conventions are sometimes negative. Remember, poor George? He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth," he said, in reference to Ann Richards' speech slamming Vice President George W. Bush at the 1988 Democratic convention. "They are always personal."

After Bloomberg Politics' Mark Halperin remarked that Trump "may have executed the wrong thing," Scarborough responded, "He certainly executed the wrong thing for the media elites that were watching last night, and everybody said, oh, a dark speech."

"Listen. It's not the speech I would have given. It's not the speech any of us would have given," the former congressman said. "It just may be the speech that millions and millions of people in middle America have been waiting to hear for a very long time. Mike Barnicle, you have been talking about how people are scared, for years. They're scared because their 401(k) is disappearing. They're scared because they can't get their kids in school. They're scared because they're not doing as well as their parents did. And you have been talking about this week how he's delivered a message for an America that’s not that scared. I don't think we're scared because economically, we're OK. But you know a lot of people in middle America are scared," he said, suggesting that message might play better away from the coasts.

Trump tailored this speech to reach those hurting in key battleground states like OH and PA and MI and IA and NC. He delivered it with a fiery, authentic defiance against MSM and said many things corporate American didn't want to hear but battleground voters did. He outlined the fact that young african americans are 58% unemployed and he would help not only them, but all of the forgotten in american cities. He appealed to LGBTQ which is something you would never hear from a traditional Republican candidate. He audaciously told NATO allies to put up or shut up. He slammed illegal immigration and stuck to his guns like the wall credo which pundits claimed he would back away from. Just about the only thing he didn't touch on was that this is a global movement like Brexit.

Your move, hillary. Better make it good.

And your liberal teet-suckler friend, MSNBC's Joe Scarsborough. I bet you have something to say about him as well. Pretty bad (or pretty good for Repubs) when your own pundits are praising Trump.

Genx87, this comment ^ is for you as well.

Mark Cuban is betting Donald Trump will lose the presidential election, but end up with his net worth increased tenfold.

It's always been a win-win situation for Trump. Remember, he started out just to get free advertising for his brand and then realized his message really resonated with the people of America. To quote Trump: "There's a lot of other things I could be doing than run for president. I want to help the American people so that's why I'm running."

As you can see, it doesn't take much to impress Drumpf supporters.

At least they're giving us some comedy in the process. Drumpf's benevolent desire for humble public service lol, I can't even type that without laughing.

He's so magnanimous, putting all his fraud and shady business dealings on hold, just for us. What a guy.

Shocking news. Up next is Democrat insiders love Hillary Clinton!

Trump is supposed to be the political outsider, mad dog raving lunatic that the GOP insiders hate with a passion.
Guess they warmed up to him.

The way he was going off on Cruz this morning, he's still a small petty man.

And Joe's also been critical of Trump, siding with his lib scum. He's about as Republican as I am physically weak.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: [Trump] is going back to what he has always been. We have said on this air nonstop. He is a Democrat. He is a centrist Democrat. Who gave money to Democrats for years. He has never been a conservative. That's not been a secret to anybody. And yet he has blown the doors off every Republican primary.

And when he goes into the general election, it is going to be harder for Democrats to say he has been a right wing religious fanatic who is going to keep you away from abortion, and keep you away from same-sex...

It doesn't make it right or wrong, it makes it harder for Democrats.

He has a 95% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, and the criticism he gave in your quote was that Trump wasn't Republican enough.

lol. Nice job owning yourself yet again, hahahaha. I love it.

Apparently if you aren't a Donald fluffer you are "lib scum."
