How about this mis-leading title? Since you haven't complained about it, I guess you're fine with it as long as a right winger does it.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2229724

How is that title misleading? Is it so hard to imagine that when most people say an "opinion piece," their referring to something written in a magazine or blog or newspaper, and not a peer-reviewed journal? The fact that the article published was, in fact, a matter of opinion, does not change the idea in most peoples' heads of what constitutes an "opinion piece."

I don't see why this should surprise me. This thread title is crafted to make you think it's the GOP state-wide. Mine was crafted to indicate that this wasn't a newspaper column or magazine article or idiot blogger. This appeared in something that we would assume is to be taken more seriously.

So, we have a few attempts to fight the title of the thread, while refusing to actually address the issue... one attempt to discredit the issue by insinuating that it isn't real unless a copy of the letter is given...

That the best ya got?

Had you actually read the entire sentence (it is not really that long), you would not have said the stupid thing I bolded, above. Since English is not your primary language, I will give you a pass on comprehension.

"While I am not doubting this story is true, if there is such a pledge which must be signed why isn't there a copy of it in the story?"

No, that is exactly what you did.

Oh, and thinly veiled personal insults are pathetic.

Which part of While I am not doubting this story is true makes you think I am doubting this story is true? Is it the word not?

Since English is not your first language, I will explain. The word "not" is a negative creating word. Not true, for example, means false. Not awake means asleep. Not doubting means believing.

So another way of stating this portion of the sentence is:

While I believe this story is true

I hope this clarifies things for you. Of course, you have to watch out for the use of not in a facetious way, but that is too in depth for someone like you who is just now learning the ins and outs of the English language.

They are making the prospects of taking back the house a given, and at least maintaining the current number of Senate seats a possibility. We already know who's going to win the WH.

At first I thought you were just trying to be insulting, but now I don't know if you actually think it... I would have a hard time believing you actually think it... but English is my first language.

Some people say, "I am not racist, but blah blah blah" where the blah blah blah is something racist.

It is a wink wink, nudge nudge.

It is the same thing done to Obama by Republicans when confronted by people who think he is Muslim.

Oh, then you have no excuse for not understanding how English works. It was the only logical thing I could come up with that did not require you to be stupid.

Some people say, "I am not racist, but blah blah blah" where the blah blah blah is something racist.

I did not use the conjuction "but". You even quoted my statement and therefor know I did not use it.

Try again, this time with far less fail.

The article you linked to is an opinion piece no matter where it came from.
It's an opinion, not factual. There is a difference.

Haha. The "but" doesn't need to be literal.

You knew and know what you tried to insinuate. If you can't attack the message itself, dispute if it even exists.

If you open both eyes you will note the title says "in" South Carolina

Your title quite obviously implies that it is the statewide GOP organization in SC that requires this pledge. You should modify it. The story is interesting and amusing (or perhaps disturbing) as it is. No need for the implied exaggeration.

I fixed it. -admin drpizza

One county? Yeah, I see your point. Nothing to worry about unless it spreads to other counties/states/organizations. It is comedic gold though.

A county makes a fool of itself, you're worried a whole state might follow?

Why? We'll laugh at them as much as you.

Imagine if this pledge spread to the entire nation, there'd be no GOP.

The state will not follow.
The South Carolina Republican Party weighed in on this today, informing the Laurens County GOP that they cannot exclude candidates on the basis of this pledge.

FWIW, Laurens County is an outlier, even in a state as conservative as this. No where else in this state will you find anything to compare to The Redneck Shop.

I think you misunderstand a lot of "mainstream" Republicans if you honestly believe that.

People aint voting for Rick Santorum based on his economic policies...

I've driven by place many times on my way through SC.

Every time I see it I think to myself I really need to stop just once and see what's inside.

Well. Clearly I won't be running for the GOP in SC.

Seriously wtf are these people thinking? I can understand the bulk. But sex before marriage? I'd love to see what percent if the GOP have honestly abstained before marriage. Why should a candidate be any different?

No sex before marriage AND no pron..... WTF? They will be going even more batshit crazy than normal.

Yes, it does, especially when you claim it is there.

You knew and know what you tried to insinuate. If you can't attack the message itself, dispute if it even exists.

Your fail is strong, your mind reading skills weak. I recommend you stop pretending the reverse is true, else you will continue to show yourself a fool.

You really should have let us think English is not your primary language...you appeared far more intelligent when we thought it was true. Now, well, now you simply appear foolish.

I can't help myself but when it comes to trying to figure out the backwater that SC is. I'll continue to repeat myself with this paraphrase:

Forget it Jake it's South Carolina.
