Somehow I doubt it. It would be interesting if true though.

The Speaker of the House will push for replacing the nation's current tax system with a national sales tax or a value added tax, Hill sources tell DRUDGE.

You have to start somewhere, and for the first time a major party is going to take the issue and run with it. Hopefully its not just an election year ploy, and they push for it if Bush is elected or not.

Oh it could pass, it would have the votes needed in both houses. To slow it down would require a record filibuster on the part of democrats to stall it. And we all know what happenes once a filibuster ends, the bill is passed.

The day the IRS is eliminated is a day to celebrate. The day all government tax collection ends is a day that will probably mark the beginning of utopia.

Hope this is true.....it's the one thing Steve Forbes brought to the game back when he ran. We need to move to a flat 15% tax on everyone except those making less than 20k a year.

LOL. And where do we get the rest of the money for the bills? That's right, it wasn't really "flat".

I don't think a simlpe tax code is partisan. If done right, they what the hell? But since Bush has blotched everything from the Clean Skies Act to Prescription Drug Act, this has to be some kind of hoax or corporate handout.

You can't get rid of tax collectors as long as you have government

To eliminate government is to grant judicial and law enforcement and defence in the hands of private citizens.

That undermines the rule of law with rule by the strong.

That destroys the Republic, and brings on an Emperor.

Even if you flatten the tax code, you would need some form of collection agent.

Edit: Ok, it doesn't sound like they would abandon taxation altogether. So they would still need some kind of administrative body. Who cares what it would be called? The change in the tax structure is 100% more important than the administrative body. That's a beauraucratic matter.

You dont need to tax corportations, if you tax them, those costs just get passed to the consumer.
