New York, United States, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- This year's four-day Republican National Convention cost a record $154 million while the Democrats spent $48 million on theirs.

A 2,294-page filing covering fundraising and expenses over a two-year period was filed with the Federal Election Commission for the run-up and execution of the New York City event, which ran from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

The Republicans listed expenditures as high as $11 million to Freeman Cos., the Dallas-based general contractor that oversaw the renovation work at Madison Square Garden, to the $2,269 spent on bowling.

Cathy Blaney & Associates, the host committee's chief fundraiser was paid $1.4 million, and $7,000 was spent on donuts and coffee distributed to host committee staff members and police.

The balloons that dropped from the ceiling after President George Bush's speech cost $207,000.

For the Democratic National Convention in Boston in July, the Boston host committee raised $54 million, and spent about $48 million.

Both conventions received $15 million from the federal government, the newspaper said.

They didn't pay for that, that was city and federal money as far as I have heard.
