Looks very "1980s".

I could easily see this (coupled with the IR blaster) being a non starter for many people outside of the "tech" crowed.

Hell, many people couldn't figure out how to set the clocks on their VCRs or program a universal remote.

I didn't take any position on it except that it looks complicated and most consumers don't like complicated.

Usually you have to appeal to the lowest common denominator in terms of simplicity to have a product be successful in a main stream environment.

Watching TV is a mindless activity. If people have to think too much to watch TV, well, that is never a good thing.

It could certainly be very successful if it is put forth in such a way that targets the largest group of people.

Whoever is going to buy a GoogleTV device would most probably have either an Android device or IPhone, so the remote most likely won't matter.

I saw a Google presentation on Google TV.... IIRC they said all remotes will have to have a full keyboard of some form, however the actual design of remotes are left to the hardware partners.

I think a good remote would be an Android app where you can use your own phone as a remote.

That's how the new Apple TV is. The remote that comes with it sucks horribly but I tried the remote app on my brother's iPhone and it's much better.

I bet an app will be released for android phones to control these networked devices without having to use a separate remote..

Oh, I am sure they will be sued.
Google has this caviler attitude towards patents.
I wouldn't doubt GoogleTV violated any number of patents.

It seems every large company doesn't care about patents which is why every phone company is getting sued and suing others at the same time.
