This is a small rant about Google's control in our online activity - Taken from my blog ( http://jeffeh.com )

I was just reading an article (here) on neowin.net that talked about the upcoming free Google Wi-Fi all across the United States. What Google seems to be creating is an online experience which affects every single aspect of our activities within this service. Ranging from search for your files (desktop search / online search), finding a location (maps / google earth), watching video (google video), viewing your photos (picasa), and email (gmail).

Eventually Google will be involved with every single aspect of what we do online. There are not many popular sites on the net that do not have a space reserved for ad provided by Google. These ads earn both Google and the site money from the advertiser. No works on both sides but still extremely large profits. Google is having no problem with keeping up with this demand and is daily adding more and more support for greater loads on there already large servers. By being able to control communications between areas on every level, if you consider the net in itself the lowest level. With web 2.0 and the shift to online applications we will see daily updated applications which will be able to do everything we ever wanted and then some. Communication will become even better, allowing anyone to contact you no matter where they or you are. The internet in ten years will be nothing like it is today, a new level of connectivity and integration will create a world that is dependent on this service and require it to function.

With this kind of affect on the United States as well as the world it is able to control all the content which is being viewed by the visitor. They are able to use ads in a way which may push certain products. They can limit exposure for other companies which in turn forces them out of business. Is it possible that someday Google may be more powerful that Governments. Although this allegation may seems ludacris to you at this point, it may prove to be true in a lot less time than we think.
