Google's "Did you mean ....?"

Anyone know what their method is exactly for bringing up this comment? I figured it was for searches that didn't turn up a lot of results and that a similarly typed word brought up more..but I was just googling "varekai", which brought up 39000 results, and google suggested "veraka", which only brought up 1200 results..

Maybe someone paid Google for that word there
