I received an e-mail late last night from "Google Wage". I was thinking, "What is Google up to now?"

It turns out that quality control in the Google Wave project has slipped given it's impending close down:

Dear Wavers,
More than a year ago we announced that Google Wave would no longer be developed as a separate product. Back in November 2011, we shared the specific dates for ending this maintenance period and shutting down Wave. Google Wave is now in read-only mode. This is reminder that the Wave service will be turned off on April 30, 2012. You will be able to continue exporting individual waves using the existing PDF export feature until the Google Wave service is turned off. We encourage you to export any important data before April 30, 2012.

If you would like to continue using Wave, there are a number of open source projects, including Apache Wave. There is also an open source project called Walkaround that includes an experimental feature that lets you import all your Waves from Google. This feature will also work until the Wave service is turned off on April 30, 2012.

For more details, please see our help center.

Yours sincerely,

The Wave Team

Google Wage might be something I'd be interested in, they should have called it that from the beginning :p

gee, a spelling mistake.
i hope the sky doesn't fall down on me.

Something you would not expect from a company like Google when sending such an e-mail to a large number of people.

But, I guess such quality control issues are just not that important in whatever industry you are in.

I was kinda hoping this was a thread about a Mint-like service from Google.

I received the same e-mail yesterday. It's a hilarious typo :D

It's too bad that this didn't make it. I was one of the few general public who got it at the beginning and tested the functionality somewhat extensively with a group of friends (I even managed to sent invites to some ATOTers). The collaborating stuff is pretty cool. The 15-20 of us ended up writing a collaborative short story together. Wave has a great potential but let's just say it's too 'smart' for its own good. Not only the people, even the infrastructure isn't quite ready for it (i.e. it lags with too many users, and when it lags it's pretty useless).

The DARPA director is bolting for Google. She's privy to a lot of info including what's most up-and-coming for the military and government as far as technology. It's an excellent acquisition for Google.

I haven't yet decided whether it's good for DARPA too...

I remember there being a little controversy (maybe overblown and not factual) about there being some personal/family ties with a company seemingly favored for DARPA contracts. Remember reading this a year or so ago, iirc. As for the truth of the situation and actual importance, not to mention validity, who knows...

I think it could be interesting having her on board regardless, as she should bring a wealth of new ideas for Google's secret skyne... projects division.
I definitely want to more out of that side of Google, their wacky innovation/hardware/business concepts define them imho. Driverless cars (could prove to be highly useful AI for autopilot functions when the driver chooses such feature - great for higher-speed highway traffic imho - most humans are terrible at this task) is one such tech that is so promising, among some of their other purported services they may or may not be cooking up.

edit:
I also got this typo too. Didn't notice it at first either. Had to look in my inbox - yup. Wage.

I can't believe I didn't notice that when I received the email, but I did notice

I thought the same thing though after noticing that one little error. It's rare to see such errors from large companies. Maybe they've switched back to MS Word.
