I have an Android tablet and I would like to give it the ability to send sms messages. I use Google Voice and send SMS messages to it all the time from my phone. These sms messages end up in my email and are a quick way to send reminders to myself.

Of course tablets are not phones so they are naturally unable to send sms. I have installed Google voice on it and while I can send SMS messages to my phone number and I receive them, I can not send them to that same google voice account. Messages say they are sent but never show up in google voice's inbox. I can send messages from my phone number to Google voice without issue.

Is Google voice just unable to send sms to itself?

Why would you want to do that, though? I'm guessing even regular phones couldn't send regular sms to its own number. Of course I've never tried this myself so I wouldn't know :)

If all you want is a reminder, why don't you use other reminder apps available on Android? An example is Google Now which has a voice reminder built-in that works really well. I sometimes use this and it works!

Yeah I don't know if it's possible either but as cronos said, why would you want to do that?

I just tried Google now reminder system and it works OK but maybe a reminder system is not what I'm really looking for. I'm just looking for a simple way to send things to my email, they are more of notes than reminders (no date attached to them). My tablet is really slow so making a short cut already addressed to # and just having to type a message and send is very quick. I like Google docs and use it as a synced notepad but it takes up words of 5 to 10 seconds for it to load.

AKnotepad (android ap) also has an account sync

I use this for short notes or reminders to myself. Its syncs to my phone and 2 other tablets.

tap the google now voice recognition button, say "remind me [when] to [what]". Works better.
But yes, regular SMS can send messages to the originating number, I used to use it for that too.

Tried out Google keep. Thanks for suggesting it.

Works well on my iPhone (I have to load the web app but it loads very fast, faster than google drive) and of course the same on the desktop and Android tablet. It does not forward the messages to my email but I can live with this since it syncs well to all my devices.

Only thing I miss is that if they were sent to your email, they were time stamped.
