If you have certain corporate discounts on your account it doesn't work right now. Don't know if they plan on fixing that or not. Doesn't work for me with my 23% discount.

What is so great about google voice? I have heard about it the last few years but have never read up on it.

I don't see a reason to use this. Especially with free mobile to mobile I have a feeling this will mess with that. You can either replace your cell phone # with your google # or vice versa. Sprint voicemail is gone (not a bad thing) and google takes over all of your voicemail. I already have that done without the integration.

This is a better thing for Sprint/Google than it is for the consumer. It doesn't offer a lot of new things that we couldn't do before. However, it offloads Sprint's voicemail service and some phones #s to google freeing up some resources, even if minor amount. It gains google more market share in this area and get google access to more information to sell more accurate marketing.

Google voice also provides free text messaging.

forwarding cell phone to home phone will be big for me.

Google Voice takes it one step further.

It allows you to ring all your phones at the same time, or none of them (depending on the caller and time of day you specify) so you can take your calls when and where you want.

So if I ring my home phone and cell phone, what shows up on my home caller id?

You can configure it either to show your google voice number on your caller id (useful for cellular plans that have unlimited favorite number minutes) or you can set it to show the number of the person that called you in the first place. If you do the latter, you can't even tell whether they rang your google voice number or your regular number; it works very seamlessly.

I'm with you. Though, I dropped google voicemail because it has a very shitty call in interface. Yes, sometimes I like to call in when my data connection is crap. that and I don't have a google voice app.

GV also does not support MMS either. I'd much rather have two GV#'s assigned to one cell phone.

Ok so if I forward cell to home and someone calls the cell, dos it go against my cell minutes even if I'm talking on my home phone?

No. No cellular signal is being used in that case. GV is just making the connection between the person and your home phone.

Actually it depends on the cell provider. AT&T does charge for calls that are forwarded.

I have been using it on my evo4g for a while now ?

We are talking about the android app, right or is there a new sprint version ?

This is about the integration of your cell # with GV. The app isn't involve beyond how it already is.

I read it might have something to do with certain discounts on your plan, but I haven't pursued it further...

So, even if you have a dumb phone and place a call, Sprint will send your GV# out for caller ID?

That's rad because, if so, it means I don't have to enable GV app calling on my phone anymore and lose out on the free anymobile minutes (since the app actually dials GV's 'translated' number for that contact, which registers as a landline I think).

Too bad I'm also currently screwed by the corporate discount.

If you have a cooperate discount, which is pretty much everyone I know, the GV integration doesn't work. It was supposed to be just cooperate accounts that can't but the way they coded it personal accounts with cooperate discounts can't either. I can't wait to get far far away from Sprint.

I'm not sure whether Sprint has something worked out special, but on a dumb phone, you'd have to dial your GV number and then it'll give you a prompt to dial whatever number you want to call. Your GV number will then appear on the caller ID.

Or you can dial the GV "routed" number directly.

But yeah, I was thinking maybe Sprint did something special with GV and their phone exchanges such that dialing a number like normal would put through your GV number for caller ID.
