G-Voice/Hangouts as Voice is merging into Hangouts.

Finally real 3rd Party Support for Apps and Devices.

https://developers.google.com/+/hangouts/telephone-oauth

Contact Obihai, GrooveIP, Talkatone and such & let them know. ;)

This is official 3rd Party support from Google. The previous way was a hack that was not okay by Google. Keep that in mind.

I don't think any 3rd party is yet aware of this official API by Google. It just sorta popped up out of the blue. I'm sure Google will make an announcement eventually.

Too little too late as these 'third party apps' who had been using the hack have all moved on from Google Voice?

It's too bad, really, because I'm sure their users would have loved it if they could stick with Google Voice, but now that they have moved on and some people even ported out their Google Voice numbers, I seriously doubt the 'third party apps' would invest time and effort into converting back (or at least developed a Google Voice alternative).

I personally don't use these things and stick with native GV app, so I'm not affected by any of this mess.

Not necessarily as they'd still need to release an update that supports the API anyways.

Well just have to wait and see....

Google voice is lame. Im surprised ppl are still using it after all that NSA shit that went down. I don't want my phone conversations recorded, not that I'm talking about anything illegal.

I'm not defending the NSA, but you know they really only bulk collect metadata, right? Like numbers dialed and received and length of call.

Besides, you think GV is unique in that regard? Do you honestly think they couldn't record any call you make if they wanted to? I doubt you're that interesting anyway.

Eh, I'd be more concerned about what Google is doing with the data they collect from people using Google Voice.

No need to thread crap here. Go make another thread on that topic if you wish.

You don't think Land & Cell lines don't do the same.... Landlines have for very long time. Don't kid yourself....

Back on Topic....

We can assume a Hangouts update with VOIP calling is coming soonish? Maybe finally integrate G-Voice as a Hangouts feature?

It's really cool that they actually made an API to support 3rd parties.
