What's the big deal? There's no such thing as privacy anymore. The gov't can see you screwing your own dog in your fenced in back yard if they cared enough to zoom in.

The difference is the government wouldn't make that public (hopefully) where as google is public for all to see. I'd be a little peeved myself but not enough to sue. I'm pretty sure if they just asked google they would have taken it down anyways.

Did they just go onto their private property and snap pics for everyone on Earth? LOLer.

I guess it's no different than being on a main road, but still... to have a vehicle come down toward the only home in the area and snap pics...

MSN's street view people pulled into and all the way up the driveway of the townhouse complex across the street from me. i was out walking the dog and they just drove right up. i gave them the evil eye and they left.

i don't think they should be driving up private driveways, even if they are shared.

While my privacy is a concern, I don't have the same specific worries that you apparently do.

Not it's not. Google has $$$$$$ :p

Yeah, they shouldn't go on private property though.

Google should take pictures of everything, it's for my browsing entertainment.

This is silly. The people didn't even know Google had gone there until someone from this website contacted them, and probably convinced them to sue, because, hey, The Smoking Gun broke the story! It's ridiculous. You can't expect the person driving the van to automatically know which roads are private and which are public; I've driven along roads out in the country that go from being gravel to paved, yet remain public roads. They should have screened the photos more carefully, and not put them up on the web, but to claim Google is culpable for any damages whatsoever is beyond ludicrous.

no pics of my town are like 5 years old

I just googled my address and my house came up . . . I had just renovated less than a year ago so these photos were less than that. I wonder how often they refresh the photos . . kinda creepy.

The Smoking Gun is doing a great service by mirroring these pictures. Ha, poor family.

This is just too scary. We have all gotten along just fine before this kind of thing and I am sure we could continue to advance without it. I just don't see how this sort of thing benefits us enough to justify the sacrifice of privacy.

eh, my house still shows our old deck and the Vandling house still standing. So these pictures have to be at least 5 years old; If not more so.

Should I be able to claim "ignorance of the law" as a defense in court?

Yes, it is. The street-view photos have a higher resolution than most still pictures you see on realty websites, and
you can get a pretty good feel for the whole neighborhood before you even step foot in the home.
