a guy in my office who is a year younger than me has no idea how to burn a CD. never made a mix CD in college. we went to college when CD burners were commonplace but pre ipod.

I remember making mix tapes. That would blow his mind even more.

On the other side of the fence, I'm still amazed at how many people don't "get" the concept of digital music. People tend to really need physical hardware to wrap their minds around purchases & management. I was just showing an older guy at work how to load his CD collection into iTunes...he had a brand-new car with Bluetooth and an iPhone and was proud of his large CD collection hehe. Much easier to carry it all around with you! Oye.

I think the main reason Netflix works is it's cheap & convenient. A lot of TV's come with it built-in, you just need a subscription. But then, I still see the same thing in the amateur tech world...people running various servers & clients for media players, all kinds of hacked-up client systems, and have their minds blown when I show them Plex Server & client.

It makes you think about the different states of technology throughout the world & throughout demographics. It's almost like stargazing...the light that you see through a telescope is from a sun that is long dead. I see that in tech, too - people using outdated equipment, struggling with things like endless BSOD, long load times, dial-up Internet, etc. when those problems were solved a long time ago & things are so much better now. Even in different countries, too - it's always kind of funny seeing third-world countries rocking outfits from the 70's because their fashion hasn't caught up with the rest of the world yet.

No one at work knows god damned thing about computers, though they've all been using them for decades. I'm trying to create order from the chaos, but I can't even get a straight answer regarding the software they use on a daily basis. I don't know how anything useful comes from their machines. It's like asking a carpenter how he gets nails in the wood, and you get "Wood? I bang things into that stuff over there using a hard thing" Sigh...

I hate every normal user. Spend five minutes of your day learning how to CLICK THE UPDATE BUTTON PLEASE! Then they screw it up anyway. People are stupid.

The IT department at my work is made up of complete morons.

My PC is on a /16 network for one. I can connect to the files of every department which is completely against he law at this type of work...

I also keep getting memory errors on my workstation, and they won't just come put in new RAM. They are waiting for a new computer for me...

Printer wasn't working the other day, and was printing out random characters nonstop. Call IT. Guy comes, moves files around opens folders. Says my PC needs to be replaced. Calls back the next day, and says that the network was the problem. Computer still won't print.
