Is there no way of removing - uninstalling the google toolbar from my computer? It's not listed on the add/remove software. I've clicked on the "google ->help -> uninstall" and it tells me that it will be removed on the next Firefox startup, but then when I start firefox... There it is! I've also tried the "Tools -> Add ons -> uninstall" in the Firefox 2.0 menu -all to no avail. Is there no escaping google toolbar? HELP!!!!

Tried it as per your recommendation. Fruitless, but thanks for the suggestion.

I guess I better stay with IE7 for now then. It's now a more reliable/stable browser than FireFox 2.0 (at least it can exist w/o google toolbar)

You wouldn't happen to be referring to the little search box, would you? Try right-clicking the header bar, and I seem to recall there's a Customize option that opens a panel, then you can drag-&-drop the unwanted search box into that panel and close it. Or is it a full-on Google toolbar you're trying to remove?

full on google tooldbar. I don't mind the little search box. I mind the popup that launches everytime -no matter what I tick or don't tick on the google toolbar, every time I launch firefox.

Backup your bookmarks and delete and re-create your profile. My guess is profile corrupt and/or permissions issues are preventing you from removing the toolbar extension.

In particular, uninstall FireFox and then I think you want to delete these two directories:

C:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Application Data\Mozilla

and

C:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla

These are hidden/system folders, so if you don't see the Application Data folder or the Local Settings folder, hit Tools > Folder Options > View, and set it to show them.

After that, reinstall FF and see if you're free of the Google scourge
