... by the end of the year.

NY Times article

Cool stuff. Depending on the implementation of Android and how the interface works, I would definitely blow money on something like this.

maybe in 3 years, we can do touch computing anywhere with these glasses!
just look at a piece of paper, augmented reality shows menus for us to drag and touch icons around.
DAMN! i better patent this!

Eh...I'd be happier if Apple released a product like this first. Apple is still better at industrial design than Google is, and their loyal fan base can basically insure that the product is given "cool" status.

THEN Google can come into the market with a product that's half the price, so I can afford one :)

I think these will have a hard time in the marketplace, the video glasses have never sold well, and I think these will fare about the same...

Yep. I think that the general population will think that it's nothing more than a nerd toy... unless Apple releases it. Then it will instantly have a fan base of millions.

Love or hate Apple, but they have an amazing way of taking other's poorly executed ideas and somehow making them cool to the average Joe.

The liability issues about HUD glasses will be an issue, people already walk in front of moving cars just listening to music, a more immersive experience will make matters much worse.

These would be really cool for people who travel a lot to places they haven't been, or don't know very well.

Could also be a really cool item for museums. Just rent them and when you look at an exhibit it can bring up info and if the glasses have earphones like the oakleys, you can have guided tours and someone narrating and such.

Or for watching movies on flights, etc.

I think the possibilities are there. Sometimes we just think about the product for what we would use it for and think it isn't that cool.

If it were up to Apple they'd sit on the idea polishing it for ten years until they thought it met their expectations. There's a good chance that they could work on it for ten years and decide that it's not good enough and never release it. They're not much of a "throw things at the wall and see what sticks" kind of company.

The biggest barrier to these will be how they look. It sounds as though it will be necessary to cram a fair bit of tech into these, which is going to make them big and cumbersome. Designing the UI for these devices is probably a good thing to do now so that when the technology does finally catch up you can have something ready to go. However, I don't feel as though the hardware we can make now will be up to the task. It'll probably end up too big and look tacky.
