Google Talk vs Gmail Chat

Howdy,

I have Google Talk installed and I also use Gmail. Gmail has the integrated Chat thing which I don't like to use which is why I put on Google Talk.

Problem is when someone chats me in Google Talk, it also opens up the little chat box on my Gmail page. If I 'X' to close it, it comes right back the next time they talk.

I want the Quick Contacts part to be in my Gmail but I don't want it to use that for chatting if I'm running Google Talk.

Is there any way to disable that? Preferably on a PC by PC basis since I don't have GoogleTalk installed on my laptop...

Thanks.

look at the bottom of your screen

Gmail view: standard with chat | standard without chat | basic HTML Learn more

click on standard without chat

Well I can do that but then it removes the Quick Contact section. I'd like to still see that so I can see if people are online from within Gmail but I just don't want to actually chat with them via the Gmail interface...
