How do you know Apple doesn't??? How do you know Google does? Is that clear enough for you? If you're so worried about protecting your identity, why do you own a smartphone? Every app you download gets info from you. Everything you do is tracked. It doesn't matter whether it's Apple or Google or Microsoft, they all do it. What makes you think Apple doesn't already take key words from your emails and track you? If you think it's so bad, stop using a smartphone. You're the one who brought this stuff in here that had NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.

How do I know Google does?
Because that is their business model.
How the hell do you think gmail suggest a map if there is an address in your email or give you context based adds?

How exactly is Apple going to mine my emails?
How exactly is Apple going to mine my voicemails when they are with AT&T?
Pretty sure that is against the law for AT&T to do that for marketing data.

Why do you think Google Voice transcribes your voicemails?

You are a fool if you think anything that Google "give you" doesn't mine your data. The entire point of everything Google "give you" is to suck marketing data. EVERYTHING.

Apple is a consumer electronics company who derives their income from selling products, while Google is a search company who derives their income form selling advertising.

Apple may not have a "one-number" service like Google Voice yet, but to imply that Apple doesn't make money off of advertising is completely false.

paid and ad-supported apps, accounts for about 8% of the $294 Trefis price estimate for Apple’s stock. ...With the introduction of the iAd platform in 2010, we expect iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad Apps Gross Profit Margin to jump up to nearly 38%.
And more here... ad nauseum

Bottom line:

Google does it. Apple does it.

Pick one. :)

You are talking about advertising in Apps.
We are talking about mining personal data through general use.

Advertising != Data Mining

Anyone who thinks Google gives a shit who you talk to and what you talk about is a paranoid fool.

And to be honest, if google does know what I talk about it, it is only a automated system. It is simply seeing when I talk about certain products etc... not for personal entertainment.

I honestly could give a shit if google knows what I am talking about with a friend. If google wants to show me ads for TVs because I am talking about a TV, that is fine, it is better than tampon ads when Im a guy. I have 0 problem with what google does, I guess I am just not paranoid.... if a automated google system checks my email and says ohhh he's talking about TV's lets give him TV ads.... sounds OK to me.

I've been using Google Voice for a while now for voicemail and text messaging on my Android phone, which works great, but has anyone actually had good experiences with the call forwarding service?

When I first tried it I found that it would add a significant delay to the point where there would be awkward pauses between me and the other caller or we'd talk over each other. When I placed phone calls using it the person on the other end would get annoyed because I wouldn't hear them until they had said "Hello" for a second time, while on my end it sounded like they just picked up and said "Hello" a first time.

Again, the voicemail and free texting is great (aside from lack of MMS support) but I wouldn't dare use it to make and receive voice calls until the lag issues are addressed.

i have my home phone (land line) forwarded to my gv number, then forwarded to my cell phone. i havent really noticed much lag in it. been using it like this since last summer. my phone line in my house got cut and ive been too lazy to repair it, so this is the only way i can receive calls on that number. i dont use the call out function at all tho, not sure how well that works

When did I say Google didn't? You're the only one refuting anything? What does iPhone being on AT&T have anything to do with it? Apple controls EVERY part of their device. It gives them more control over it then Google does. They can track more than Google ever could since they control the software and hardware. Go ahead and think Apple doesn't do it but we have already had threads on this that EVERYONE does this. I've said this already so that's all I have to say about that.

Google controls Google Voice.
You cannot use Google Voice without soliciting services from Google.

Well, it's back -- for good, looks like.

If I were switching carriers I'd definitely consider this.
