Google sync is awful

I used to use Xmarks, but wasn't happy with the syncing frequency. When i used it in firefox on windows, it would pop up before closing to make sure it synced. In chrome - which i switched to - it doesnt, and you just gotta hope it does before you close out chrome. (what if i bookmark something and then immediately close it???)

So a few weeks ago i decided to try out google sync, and right away i thought they fixed the problems, and made it so it actually works.

Over the past week, i have noticed that sometimes it doesnt sync things -- ever.

For instance, i bookmarked what games i wanted to buy from the amazon spring sale last night, to buy today when they went on sale. Im on my mac now and they are nowhere to be found. Also i deleted an entire folder last night, and its still there.

Im guessing it missed a bunch of other bookmarks as well, which basically makes the whole system unreliable. Why come out with a product that only works half the time. HOW HARD IS IT TO SYNC BOOKMARKS!?!?!?!?!

Sorry for the rant, but im extremely annoyed that something so easy as syncing bookmarks is so difficult.

there is NO good way to sync bookmarks. Which pisses me off because then it makes so much more work for me. If im on my laptop, and theres something important i want to bookmark, I have to go back to emailing it to myself. ARGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Google sync sucks, be it on a phone or on the computer.

On my BlackBerry, I have set it up to sync my Gmail contacts with my phone. It is supposed to do it every 4 hours but i'd be lucky if it did it even every week. All Google products suck starting from Chrome on wards.

The only good thing they made was Gmail , anything else, I never touch their products, not even their search engine as they continuously collect your data and sell them to sources

That's why I switched to DuckDuckGo for privacy issue

I always use XMARKS and it has never failed me... I just say YES when it asks me to synchronize on the browser exit..how hard is that?

Are you using chrome or Firefox? Last time i used it in chrome there was no prompt, it just closes without syncing.

Wow, I'm having none of the issues you guys are having. Both my contacts and chrome bookmarks sync perfectly.

I just told you all Google products except GMAIL suck and you're asking this? LOL :D

Firefox offcourse

it asks everytime I make a change even a small change such as renaming a bookmark

Chrome's interface, download manager, bookmarks manager, and addons ALL SUCK

Firefox FTW

PS: I use LastPass + Xmarks! Saves me a lot of time and hassle

I switched to chrome because I like the interface more, but i might switch back to firefox, just because of this issue. I know it asks when im on PC, but when im on mac, will it also prompt?

I just dont understand how it could be so bad. You would think for such a big company, google would back some of its products, but theyre pefectly happy with making things half-ass.

So many products are a few bug fixes and features away from being great, but they just abandon them.

Maybe your thread title should (more accurately) read "Firefox + Google sync is awful"

I use chrome on my desktop and my tablet, and it seems to sync perfectly all the time. The tablet version also take occasional snapshots of all the tabs I have open on the desktop, with a full history. It's very slick.

firefox has nothing to do with it. The only reason firefox has been brought up is because its an alternative.

Maybe i should rename it chrome + google sync = awful?

I just dont get why it chooses not to work sometimes. I now have to go through both PC's side by side and compare to see which is missing what. Inconvenient and unreliable.

Im aware that bookmarks arent that important to some people, but they are to me. For most people, this is my equivalent of adding someone to your contacts on your phone, and then it never syncs it. You get a new phone, and then that contact is gone forever.

On a fresh Windows 7 64 bit install, everytime I installed Chrome (1 month back) when I exit, I get an error message saying "this program has caused an error and will now close"

This happened both on the installed version and on the portable version

In addition to the lame interface, how it handles downloads at the bottom bar, and the addons are subpar compared to Firefox

just my 2 cents

So just figure id come here and update my experience with chrome sync.

I found that when a browser opens, it doesnt check with the server to see if any new bookmarks are made, and wont for a while.

What i do when i open chrome on my MBA after not using that computer for a week or so, was to just bookmark any page, and then it just updates to all your current bookmarks. So just bookmarking anything is the kick in the ass chrome needs to sync.

Since then ive been without a complaint. I would like my chrome bookmarks to be viewable without using chromesync, but i guess thats a feature that they might add some day.
