Google shutting down GOOG-411. BAH!

Back in 2007 we launched 1-800-GOOG-411, a voice-powered directory assistance service that connects you quickly to businesses across the U.S. and Canada. On November 12, 2010, we will shut down the service.

I know there are other options out there these days, but I'm still bummed by this. I use GOOG-411 all the time while in the car.

Curse you Google!

I used to use it, but with an android phone it is kind of pointless now which may be googles reasoning. If they ever cut google voice I will be very sad.

From what I've read, they were using the service as research, getting voice samples to use for speech recognition I would imagine. The only reason it was free was to get a high participation rate.
