Google should add a forum searching feature.

I don't really know how it would work with so many different forums (Fusetalk, Invision, etc), but Google should add a feature where it indexes forum posts. A lot of good information is contained in forums. I have found lots of solutions to computer problems only on forums, and the only way to do that is to search each forum individually. If there was a way to search all forums at once, like news groups, that would be very helpful.

they do it for it stuff
or they might have a sponsor
cuz when you serch for tch stuff (software etc) on google
experts-exchange usually alwys comes top 3 with a good response
actually now i search first on experts-exchange and then on google when i am trapped while developing software

I've been led to forums (not structured forums like PHPBB or Fusetalk, etc. but in-line message forums) through Google before.

I think fatwallet uses google to search their forums. I'm just not sure that if you search google it'll bring you to fatwallet forums for a hit, maybe on page 12 or something...

I've also found many forums through google... spywareinfo.com, tv-cards.com, etc.

I believe the admins can exclude google from indexing the site, and that is probably what is done here. just a hunch.

Anandtech is indexed. Only sites that require passwords aren't, but all others are afaik.

No, I believe there is an html parm you can enter that search engines are supposed to follow and not index pages below that one. ICBW. I was just guessing, it's quite possible you can search through ATOT via the above options, I've never tried it. I suspect I would have heard about it at some point though if it was possible... the search engine here is quite crippled (at least for us freebie users) to save on resources.

how can I search for posts on Anandtech using Google?

wordtosearch site:forums.anandtech.com

that should work

except that search engines don't search the forum that well. Must be something on the server side that is stopping spiders from crawling.

Now, I agree w/ Tommy, it would be very nice. I used to use dejanews and still use groups.google.com on occasion. I just tried the <searchword> Site:forums.anandtech.com and it doesn't work. but it does work for www.anandtech.com but only for the main site, not the forums. The forums are not searchable via google at least not w/o some trick that I'm unware of.

BTW:

Yowsa, new evidence of YETI discovered...
