i got my first spam mail in the gmail account. and i have only emailed one person from this account and that was to another gmail account.

wonder how my addy is getting spam mail?

If its a common name its easy to make a spam list. If you have a yahoo list tehy could just swap yahoo.com with gmail.com, smae with hotmail, etc. I bet a lot of people made gmail with thier same yahoo name.

I got my first one today. It was in a foreign language. Marked it as SPAM and that's it.

Did you guys not read WHY google is offering 1gig limits to their free email? Google will actively search your email and send you spam based on your email content.

thats not how it works at all, they search your e-mail and put up there ads on the pages. You dont actually get e-mails.

No they don't. They show advertisments on the sidebar.

Hrm. That's not what google said they'd do with gmail, but that's much better than what they said they'd do (my post). 🙂

You don't need to publish you email address to get spam. Spammers know that gmail is the hottest thing since sliced bread so they probably made a list of
a@gmail.com
b@gmail.com
c@gmail.com
...
zzzzzzzy@gmail.com
zzzzzzzz@gmail.com

and probably every

[English word]@gmail.com

and

[Common name]@gmail.com

If your address falls in to any of those categories then that is why you got spam. However if it is kDaVdjf7ucn122daKRfdgQ@gmail.com then there is a possibility that they sold it.

By the time I got an invite all the good ones were taken..so I had to settle for one just like you described. Huh. Guess they did sell out!!

At least you weren't ignorant about it and claimed that they do 😛 🙂
