Did you guys not read WHY google is offering 1gig limits to their free email? Google will actively search your email and send you spam based on your email content.

thats not how it works at all, they search your e-mail and put up there ads on the pages. You dont actually get e-mails.

You don't need to publish you email address to get spam. Spammers know that gmail is the hottest thing since sliced bread so they probably made a list of
a@gmail.com
b@gmail.com
c@gmail.com
...
zzzzzzzy@gmail.com
zzzzzzzz@gmail.com
and probably every
[English word]@gmail.com
and
[Common name]@gmail.com
If your address falls in to any of those categories then that is why you got spam. However if it is kDaVdjf7ucn122daKRfdgQ@gmail.com then there is a possibility that they sold it.

Hrm. That's not what google said they'd do with gmail, but that's much better than what they said they'd do (my post). 🙂
