I have a google result for my name that is second to last on the first page, and I'm trying desperately to get rid of it. Any suggestions?

I've added some links on my Linkedin profile (the second result) to try to boost some other things. I noticed Meetup groups end up towards the top as well so I joined a bunch more.

I'm currently looking for a new job and figure my name will be googled, but that most people don't go past the first page.

Doesn't help that I'm the only person with my name in the world

its near impossible to do. you would have to erase all online tracks. google is very smart about how things get on the pages. whats your name, Ill google it. just because you can see it doesn't mean other people can.

do you have a google account? if so google tracks what you search for and when you search terms it tries to parallel your most likely habits. also your location is heavily involved.

google has little control over what naturally populates the pages. Its all history and generated algorithms.

The results are the same when I sign out of my google account. My goal isn't to get rid of the search result (I know that is impossible), but to push it to the second page. My only strategy thus far was to try to spam it out with Meetup groups (which I joined after the bad result appeared, and have overtaken it), and to add links to my Linkedin page.

It sucks because it is some jackass' blog post. I tried emailing him to talk about it, I doubt his 3+ month old post does anything for him but it sure as hell as an impact on me, but no response.

How common is the name? Can it be tied to you? Just because a name is the same as yours, it doesn't mean it's you.

Like I said it takes so much traffic to move a spot there is nothing you can do. Also you trying to add or create links wont do a thing. Google knows its shit and you really cant fake anything. It still knows your search history when you are logged out, your IP logs it all.

I have been working with google alot these last few months.

We have google apps for business, we are trying to create 3 websites maintain a 4th and get them ranked. Have been going back and forth with google and adwords as well as my web designers etc.

You cant do anything about it, If the blog is particularly slanderish you MIGHT be able to send a cease and desist letter but I doubt that will do anything.

Google owns 83% of the market when it comes to search, even MS and Yahoo have used modified versions of Google algorithms, almost all embedded search functions use googles algorithms. I bet the search on here is powered by Google.
