a very wierd thought i just had.

was considering that google is basically as close as you'd get to being a "contents page" for the entire internet. Except that i presume it doesn't actually "exist" as a contents page, but it comes up with it's results after you enter in your search phrase?

So the contents page doesn't actually "exist" until you enter your search, at which point it generates it's results.

I don't know a lot about the schrodingers (sp) cat theory, but as i understand it's along the lines of "it only comes into existence once you look for it" - or something like that...

so googles results in it's contents page only actually exist once you enter in your search.

am i raving nuts or does this make sense? (have i got google completely wrong... 😛 )

You can separate this into a technical discussion and a philosophical discussion.

Tech: how does google come up with its results - are there pre-made caches or does it really do this stuff on the fly? I don't know how it works, so I'll leave that to the experts.

Philosophy: You're right, but then again, you don't exist either 🙂 .

i was chatting with a guy at work who deals with putting our companies page up on the net, which made me think about it. thought about it on friday, and just now. same thought on two seperate days :s

or, whether I'm right or wrong, no one cares 😀

I think this is closer to "The room doesn't stink until I fart." No quantum mechanics at work here. Carry on.
 
I don't think there's any parallel at all, if you assume that Google has gathered and collated results for various searches by keywords in its massive distributed database. The search contents already exist in "static" form somewhere - your search is simply organizing them by order of relevance depending on your keyword selection.
