"Someone just used your password to try to sign in to your account. Google blocked them, but you should check what happened."

phishing scam?

how would google know and even block an attempt to login to my yahoo acct?

email from google was from no-reply@accounts.google.com.
the link in the email points to accounts.google.com when I hover over it.

the ip that tried to log into my yahoo acct was 34.201.x.x.

where is 34.201?

For me it comes back with Virginia and is associated with Amazon

Might be more accurate perhaps with more IP addy numbers

I got the same thing about another email address of mine that google doesn't own... I too think it looks legit but I don't know how they would know that?

unless you registered your gmail account as a backup contact for your yahoo address, there shouldn't be anyway they would have known...

Google pretty much knows everything you and everybody else does online due to tracking beacons and supercookies. So they probably know of your accounts on other sites and if someone else tried to login.

If you used your Yahoo E-mail with Google that's why. Also, if you use a VPN or something this could have triggered it.
