Do you think that Google should have to censor or just index whatever is on the Internet...regardless of content ?
Are they responsible for the content of others just because of a link ?

That's not google's responsibility, and they should not be liable for the content of the pages in their database.

EDIT: These are opinions.

Google should index what is on the internet regardless of content. There is always going to be somebody who objects to something, whether it be on legal or moral grounds.

seriously, just because they link it doesnt make it their responsibility, they'd find it somehow or another if it offends them, they shouldn't search for it, hehe, or should contact the owner of the site....

Actually, that's two words! ;)
Regardless, I don't feel that it's the responsibility of a search engine to police the Internet.
If someone is using "child pornography" as a search argument, then that is what they are looking for and are quite liable to find no matter what Google says or does.

They might not be the police of the internet, but they should influence what can be found on the internet versus what is on the internet. Besides, if they are indexing illegal content, shouldn't it be reported to the proper authorities?

To me...

This is the same as the yellow pages listing an Escort Service
or the white pages having a listing that happens to be a crack house..

It is not up the the directory, nor is it its responsibility to
to determine the legality of its listings

I don't think Google wanted to censor their index...

They were pressured into doing so by others..

Google is being held responsible for the content of others...

Sort of a repost. Basically, the church of scientology is one screwed up cult. They have the money to fight whomever they want. Since they couldn't get the dutch page removed (they tried), they went after google instead. read up on them a bit - they're completely against christianity. At one point they claim Jesus was a homosexual and a pedophile. The funny thing is, L. Ron Hubbard even said he started the cult for money.

Um, no. When I use a search engine I was unbiased un-favored results - not whatever the search engine people want me to see. That is the entire point of Google's crosschecking system.

Scientologists are whackos. Don't be surprised if they catch wind of this thread and start subscribing here to "defend" themselves.
For an interesting read, go find out how they sued the Cult Awareness Network into bankruptcy and then bought it out. The Cult Awareness Network is 0wn3d by scientologists and is no longer a useful resource....
