What would I include: A commandline interface more useful than DOS

What would I not include: Webserver (Why is IIS part of WinXP?)

hmm that sounds good...except now that i think about it i would rather just have a lean mean and quick OS and have nothing else except whats needed to run progs...because I am sure a company who just makes ftp clients can focus on it better, and I can use that one...

In other words even free filezilla will still be better than anything MS or other OS companies include in their OS....

make adding pluggins and third party add-ons to the OS/IE simple and secure, and integrate without having to bypass Microsoft's own files, codes and system restore.

Normally, a person would have run a seperate program for any plugins and add-ons, but wouldn't it be better... for people running a bunch of them... if there were a simple control panel item that managed them all, let them be turned on and off with just a simple checkbox or removed and uninstalled as simply as the add/remove programs?

I'd like an OS that allows the installation process to be as customizable as possible; you'd need some sort of modular action going on. I understand that some things are mandatory, but still...

To give a parallel in Windows, it would be something along the lines of "supporting everything that Windows supports now, but being able to run it from a command line." I don't even know if that makes any sense typed out, but it made sense in my head dammit.

Windows has another built-in ftp client... if you don't mind running it from the command line ;)

IIS is only included in XP Pro. Not XP home. Its also not installed by default, you have to go back and install it yourself.

One thing I want is for the web browser NOT to be an integral part of the damn OS.

Based on about 85% of the posts so far, it sounds to me like you folks need to try a recent Linux distro like Ubuntu or Meppis. Add Wine and you're rockin and rollin.

Usefull command line interface - yes
Common sense executables - yes (doesn't get easier than apt get)
Full control over plugins - yes
FTP other than IE - yes
Ability to remove unnecessary components - yes (you can make Linux what you want)
Uses Firefox instead of IE - yes
Ablity to easily secure and hide folders - yes (chmod anyone?)
Customizable installers - yes (you can write your own in fact)
command line support for window (GUI) functions - yes
etc, etc...

Actually I'd love to get my home file server running on Linux. Probably Redhat or Mandrake. But it would take me a long time to find Linux versions of all the applications I need it to run.

Missing the ability to run everything you can now on a Windows Machine... kinda critical for many if not most...

Unless they made it so it could by entering an agreement with MS.
A Google home OS can't to anything at the moment, because it doesn't exist....

My feature: No refresh rate limit that needs overriding.
