So this is how Skynet really began with project Loon. They're taking cloud computing to a whole new level - the literal level.

'According to Google, "Project Loon is a network of balloons traveling on the edge of space, designed to connect people in rural and remote areas, help fill coverage gaps, and bring people back online after disasters."'

When I first read that, I first had to check I wasn't dreaming. Then I had to check I wasn't magically thrown back in time to April 1st.

This just sounds like that kind of Google.

It turns out they were totally serious. Who knew?

I used to joke about Google and Skynet - but shit, they're twisting my arm here! :p

That said, it was great for jokes, but I no longer see Google as permitting Skynet to ever truly occur. If it does, it's because they made a self-driving AI so ridiculously awesome that it figured out how to take destiny into its own hands and take control of itself.

They can't kill us humans, or even confine us all. We need to be free, so we can go about life and spend money. Google needs advertisers money and advertisers have probably figured out that locked up people aren't buying many things.

I can't get WiFi from the opposite end of the house and these assholes are streaming from the edge of space. Way to be a one-upper Google.

you'd be surprised.
No, not really. But do try to surprise me.

Let's start with coherent sentences, then add some substance. Let's try that first. I'd be in SHOCK if you can do that.

Did you read the article? I'd be REALLLY surprised if you say you did and understood it. Come on, prove me right.

Google? Please.

The future is already written. All you have to do is look at an Intel roadmap.

Haswell
Broadwell
Skylake
Skymont
SkyNET

Just look at their enthusiast skull logo. It bears a striking similarity to a Terminator exoskeleton.

I hope you've all got your INTC stock certificates in a safe place.

Funny, I was totally thinking this is something the open source / hacker community needs to do. Guess Google is going to do it first. :p

At some point the government will make the internet pretty much useless for anything other than business so a separate "underground" network will be needed for the good stuff like file sharing.

Microsoft is probably going to rewrite Skype in .NET and rename it to SKY.NET. It will be a full blown surveillance system sponsored by the NSA. The Xbox will eventually get that update too.

Whenever they start putting ads in the sky on the dome of our atmosphere is when I start getting annoyed.
