its disappointing to me because the N1 was a leap forward hardware wise, wrt 1ghz cpu, 512mb ram, wvga screen etc.

Nexus S sounds like the exact same thing, with a faster GPU and made by samsung. no real leap whatsoever, which is lame. only the software sets it apart from the rest of the market.

Software is a big deal. Looking at the Gizmodo link, assuming the GPS works, I want this device. :p

I didn't think the N1 was that big of a leap forward, personally. It was a nice device, but it hardly pushed the envelope with processing power, screen size, etc.

Wasn't the Nexus One the first Android device with a 1GHz processor?

Nexus One had the best processor, most RAM, best camera, best screen, and the best call quality of any phone when it came out.

Nexus 1 was not the first smartphone to have a 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU, I believe that was the HD2. If it wasn't the HD2, the HD2 still beat the N1 to market by a long time. Both HTC phones, but still.

The N1 was a nice phone. The N2(S?) looks to be a very nice phone as well, especially if Google is handling the software side of things. Something Samsung seems to have difficulty with.

it will probably be ok...i'm just an HTC or Sony Ericsson fanboy so i'm sad. doesn't really matter though, as I plan on getting the first HTC dual core phone that comes out off contract anyway, as soon as it is rooted.

A plasticky Nexus Two? The hardware may be incrementally better than my n1 but I'm not leaving the solid aluminium body for plastic =(
