If this is true, I'm literally quitting the platform, or at least Google's side of it.

Yeah, this seems crazy of Google. I'm pretty casual when it comes to privacy and even I think this is kinda nuts.

You can get a mailbox at UPS which acts as a physical address. You can also use your post office's physical address along with a suite/unit number that corresponds to your PO Box #, this also acts as a physical address.

I think they will change the policy and provide more information....

maybe they will provide a check-box that makes it possible to hide your address but that will make your apps unavailable in the EU.
That would be fine, windows phone needs more marketshare to be taken seriously by developers.

Go to a UPS store and open a mailbox. You will receive a physical mailing address, not a PO box number. Google will be none the wiser and problem solved.

Well angry consumers can now write you threatening emails directly...or just show up at your door.

This.

Do people actually have PO boxes these days? PO boxes are dumbphones in a smartphone era.

Not sure why this is seen as a bad thing. If a "developer" can't be bothered to provide a mailing address, I'm happy to never see their products in the google play store.

It's the cost of doing business.

my friend does because he does not want to put a mailbox in front of his house (dumb reason)

my sister does because the town she lives in has no local delivery. Only FedEx will deliver to her house. UPS just leaves it at the Post Office

His point is that you can get a physical mailing address at a UPS store, or you can even use your local post office address with the suite number corresponding to your PO box.

I know what his point was, I was answering the question about if people have PO boxes anymore

also the closest UPS store from my house is prob at least 30 miles away, that obviously wont work for everyone. just sayin

How about cost? PO Boxes are significantly cheaper than a box at my local UPS store.

it isn't giving a mailing address to google that is a problem in my eyes, it is that it is public for people to see when viewing my apps. i have no problem giving my address to google (and have already done so as a developer).
