I don't like the layout.

I also don't like google repeatedly trying to attach it to my youtube account. No, google, I don't want my real name to be displayed on youtube. Why is this hard to understand?

Google came late in the game, Facebook dominates. I can see Google buying Facebook one day though. I'm actually surprised they have not done it already. People complain at changes Facebook does. Imagine if Google bought it. LOL

Google's market cap is only three times that of Facebook. That's not a trivial acquisition. When you factor in the premium they would have to pay it would end up being the third largest merger / acquisition of all time.

What really won FB their membership? I mean there was myspace, hi5, and friendster among others. I only joined FB because my friends started piling on there instead of anywhere else. Google came really late to the game, but they are the closest competitor in terms of functionality. Too bad it's not very intuitive.

It was exclusive among ivy league colleges.

Of the three you listed, only Myspace was really popular. For me personally, I absolutely hated Myspace. The dumb ass custom layouts people would pick, the flashing/annoying gifs everywhere, and worst of all.....the stupid fucking music that would automatically play on EVERY SINGLE PAGE you'd visit, like we want to listen to whatever crap you put on there. As Myspace gave more control and people learned how to make their page look like vomit, people flocked to this new Facebook thing because it was clean and straight-forward. It catered to a more adult crowd. It didn't take but a year or two for Myspace to become uncool and it just died.

Why do techies like Google+? What feature does it have that draws them? I get linked to discussions there occasionally, but otherwise, the only time I'm aware of it is when I'm dodging Google's ploys to get me to setup a page. Fuckin' annoying...

I have no idea. I don't understand the interface. Twitter I understand - everything is in a vertical, scrollable format with the new stuff on top. Easy. G+? No idea. And Google keeps signing me up every few weeks for it 😡
