Back in November I bought a pair of tickets to a college basketball game as a Christmas gift for my father. We used to go to games often when I was a kid, but hasn't been for a few years. Somehow we both got the dates mixed up and thought the game was tonight and had plans to meet up to go, but it was actually scheduled for yesterday.

As I was leaving work yesterday, my phone buzzed with a Google Now notification telling me that I needed to leave soon to get to the game on time. After few moments of confusion I realized I had mixed up the dates, called my dad, and met him at the game.

Without the notification I would have missed the game and probably not realized what happened until we showed up at the empty arena. The best part is it happened all automatically, I didn't have to set a reminder or anything, it just pulled the info from the confirmation email that ticketmaster sent when I bought the tickets. I've had Google Now automatically create cards based on emails before so it wasn't a surprise, but this is probably the first time that it was a situation that was truly helpful.

Anyone else have Google come to the rescue to avoid a compete screwup like this?

I just keep my Google calendar widget on my home screen. I can always see what's coming up in the next couple days. But the alerts are nice if you get sidetracked and don't look at your phone in a while. I had that happen with a dentist appointment.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't know how I remembered anything before I started using Google calendar.

Nothing as dramatic so far, just the 'it's going to take you x minutes to work' notification, which to me always sounds like 'you have to leave now to beat traffic and get to work on time!' stuff :D

It was nice having my airline info on a card so I didn't have to go searching for the confirm email when checking in.

I used to find Google Now incredibly useful. Now that any time I am at home it shows my location as some city 200 miles away I am finding it less and less useful. It sort of sucks to see my estimated drive home is going to be four hours ... when I am already at home lol.

You can set your home and work. Otherwise it guesses based off your time spent at a certain place.

It knows where my home and work are, I set those long ago and have set them several times recently as well trying to fix the issue. What Google can't seem to do is determine where I currently am when I am actually at home. It is incredibly frustrating. GPS can show my location but Google uses some other kind of fuzzy math to determine location using WiFi and possibly diving rods by default and there appears to be no way to disable this.

Also, I have never been to the city is shows me being in when I am at home.

What kills me is when I get to work and look at it and it says "time to home..." Nope Google, got to pay the bills. :(

Haha, yeah that pisses me off too, when it starts showing time to home around 1 PM. I wish I could go home at 1 PM. Lol.
