i couldn't seem to find a thread on this, which kind of surprised me.

So, has anyone tried out the new google music store and all its extras.

i live in the UK, and it is not released over here yet, actually what is kind of annoying, i had the beta version, and i could add the free music to my collection, but now that the official store is out, i cannot access any of the free music anymore, which sucks, but whatever, i also cannot redownload any of the music that i uploaded, or got from google for free, its the cloud or nothing.

I was just wondering if anyone is using it from in the US and what you think.

I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but I just like being able to stream my own music to my phone. If they had a free song a day or some deal like that I think it would be nice (again, haven't used it yet so I don't know).

I got in on the Google Music Beta, so I've been using it a little bit for the past month or so. I haven't purchased any music through them. Syncing iTunes playlists to my Google Music account was the big draw for me.

Edit: Correction. Now I have "purchased" music through Google Music. I just added the free Pearl Jam Toronto 9/11/11 concert to my library.

Ill only buy online when they offer flac or some form of lossless. Otherwise, it's still CD and rip manually for me.

so i uploaded a bunch of older stuff in my library as a test. i like it so far, hasnt been too bad about lagging out or any of the problems ive been having with pandora lately. one thing that is bugging me tho, is not having controls on the lock screen. the native music player will give you << play, pause and >> controls at least. am i just missing something for the google music player?

I really like it so far; easy and convenient! I uploaded my collection to the cloud and now have access to it from my phone or the web, whenever I have wifi or 3g access. I successfully streamed my cloud copy of The Downward Spiral over 3g at the office and it was the same as if it was loaded directly to the phone's memory. Very slick.

I've bought a few albums from the music store; they're added to my cloud collection and I was easily able to download it to my computer for local storage and syncing with my zune.

No it worked fine with Froyo as well. I think Moto may have changed it to only show for their own music player. I know my Pantech phone had the same problem. Their own music player would have on-screen controls, but the Google music player didn't.

Just another example of manufacturer skin fail.

I mostly don't like the interface, especially when dealing a with a mix of cloud and on-device songs.
It also take a long time for the music to queue up when you start playing.

the queueing has to do with phone speed and connection speed, slacker often takes forever to start up as well after you select a station if the signal is weak

The newer versions work very well. It works 10x better than Amazon version which errors out on half my songs saying unable to play unsupported file for songs I bought on Amazon then works fine am hour later.

I tried it briefly and didn't really care for it. Not a big fan of streaming.

I'm in the UK and I can access my stored tunes fine and still upload. I cant access the Google music store however (which is not a worry for me).

To get the mobile app use "market enabler" from the android market and set your location to a US one, then search for Google Maps (or some other Google app available to you normally) then click on the "more from this developer" link . You should find the Google Music app that way.

To get access on the desktop (and to upload music) you need to use a US web proxy (I used one of the Firefox addons) and go to google music and register. Once you've registered you don't need to use the proxy again.

I just started using it the other day, it took nearly 48 hours to upload my entire collection, however.

So far, it seems to be working well. I like that you can download songs to the device for offline play. Granted, I don't use the store only because I don't really buy much music anymore.

With Spotify, Amazon MP3, and Google Music all offering cloud music, it's hard to keep track of which to use. I also got sucked into all those free tracks Amazon and Google were giving away each day. When I logged into both accounts, today, I realized I don't really even want them. They make your library look fragmented and ugly. I deleted everything in both accounts and am only adding music to them that I can't get on Spotify ... so things like live albums or NPR podcasts, or artists that Spotify doesn't carry or have.

well, thanks for all the replies, i was in the states and was able to get started, but when i got back to the UK it won't let me buy songs, i would use Tor, but my internet is too slow to make it worthwhile. One day when fibre optics gets rolled out in my area i will try it again, but at the moment, its fine, my music uploads, i can buy it from elsewhere.

but i do hope that google music becomes fully operational over here soon.

Don't use Tor for that sort of thing.

Is there any way to download an album I bought? I tried and it would only "sync" which download the album, but also ~30 single songs I've got for free or something earlier and made a mess of my music folder and was a pain to delete. I just want to choose which album do download!

I also learned that collection albums are a pain. I uploaded one that I wanted to delete, but i have to click each artist and delete that song, for every song in "100 greatest.." collection. ugh!

48 hours? Fuck, I think after 48 hours I was at 20% uploaded. My connection isn't amazing but I also have a shit load of music.
