Google Maps?

Background: I go a white iPhone 4 when they came out. Now this is the first iPhone I've owned but I've had a few Android phones and I prefer the iPhone over them.

I suppose I was spoiled with the Google Maps navigation on Android because the iOS version is seriously gimped. Is there no free turn by turn navigation app? This is one of the few gripes I have with my phone. If there isn't a very good free version, what is the best paid option? Best being price and functionality of course.

Thanks.

That is what made me think of it. I'd rather have someone whose actually used it chime in before I pay the $60 it costs (if I read the post correctly). Sadly, I can't access iTunes site at work.

You just reminded me. I am going to try this.

Just tried this out on my iPad. It's ok'ish. It misspelled my street (says Avenu instead of Ave, or Avenue) so I kinda don't trust it. Still, it's the first native iPad navi app I've seen on my iPad fullscreen, so I paid the 4 bucks to remove ads.

EDIT 2: It's right on the openstreetmap server...hmm.

Can you try this app and see how it works for you?

Wow, looks like I'll have to wait until I get home. Apparently, it is larger than 1.3GB because it is saying I don't have enough room on my phone and that is how much I have free. >_> Oh well, I've been meaning to remove some music.

Navfree GPS Live USABy Geolife Ltd.

Ridiculously slow. Just navigating around lags, plus it is 1.8GB in size... You'd think with that kind of size it would be loading the maps onto the phone or something. Just to be sure I fired up the Google Maps and it works flawlessly. The search continues...

MotionX needs data access to download maps, something to keep in mind. Other GPS apps have the maps embedded.

I use it all the time on both my iPHone and iPad 2 and paid the $25/year for turn by turn with audio.

I also occasionally use Navigon if MotionX cannot find a destination.

I use the tom-tom app on my iPhone and have no complaints.

I just tried that free one posted above and it was pretty terrible.
