This needs to be configurable. Shortest is most definitely not desirable over quickest for me. On numerous occasions I've ignored the suggested route and it has recalculated a considerably quicker and less congested, albeit slightly longer route.

He means shortest time (aka quickest), that's how Google Nav has always done it for me.

Google Navigation always calculates the shortest time for me. I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that it calculates the shortest distance from.

iOS 6 Adoption Grows 29% Over The Weekend As People Finally Update After Google Maps Arrives

Apple Maps was so bad that people refused to upgrade to iOS 6 until they could get Google Maps, says data from massive mobile ad exchange MoPub. The 12,000 apps it supports saw a 29 percent increase in unique iOS 6 users in the five days after Google Maps for iOS was released. Chitika reported just 0.2 percent growth immediately after the launch but it seems people waited for the weekend to do the long install.

MoPub monitors over 1 billion ad impressions a day across more than 12,000 apps and a dozen ad networks, making its data set more reliable than individual ad network Chitika. MoPub provided TechCrunch with data showing a 13 percent increase in iOS 6 users just from Monday to Wednesday, indicating many people switched to the newest Apple mobile firmware as soon as Google Maps’ standalone app arrived in the App Store.

The remaining increase was likely delayed until the weekend and therefore not seen in Chitika’s data because people wanted to wait for positive reviews of Google Maps for iOS 6, or they didn’t have time to do the lengthy OS update and stare at a loading bar during the work week.

MoPub’s CEO laid it out for me, explaining “we observed since the launch of Google Maps for iOS 6 a 30 percent increase in unique iOS 6 users, and we think it’s related to Google Maps. It verifies the hypothesis that people were actually holding back to upgrade until Google Maps was available.”

That's actually really funny. I did have Google Maps fail me with a POI that Apple Maps had (due to it already reviewed on Yelp). No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get this to show up:

http://www.yelp.com/biz/southbay-auto-repair-and-collision-campbell

+1 pt to Apple.

Showed up fine on Google Maps for Android.

Try just Google Maps for PC (I tried my phone too but I was on the PC trying to look it up)
https://maps.google.com/

I searched for:
Southbay Auto Repair & Collision near Campbell, CA

I'm not searching by address, I was trying to GET the address given the name and city. There's lots of random results but none on Winchester (where that place is). I tried again just now and I still don't get any results.

So you're able to get it to show up? What was your search terms?

Bueller?

This is Google maps for PC (which I assume should contain everything that iOS and Android should contain). So f' me if this result doesn't show up for me and shows up for you. And once again, it's search by name and city, not an address. That's usually how POI searches work, you have little information about what you're looking for so you're searching by name or type or whatever. I would be flabbergasted if it's really true that it shows up for you and not for me.

The correct one should be located at:
2970 Winchester Blvd

I now see what you're talking about.

Last night, I clicked your link, long press on the address, and Google Maps automatically opened up with the exact name and location of the place on my Nexus 7 including drive time for me which was 1 day+. It didn't have any information though, just name with the exact latitude/longitude...No phone number, address, or any info etc...

A general search on Google Maps itself doesn't turn up that POI.

I am glad to see that Google Maps is available (best overall mapping app). For me (just personal preference ), Waze is a better choice for navigation .
