Google Maps directions notification while screen is off? Or other app? Android

So I can't figure out how to do it with Google Maps if it's possible, but what I'd like to do is leave my screen off and have it turn on with my next route change visible as it comes up. Is this possible with Google Maps or any other map app?

Thanks

he's asking for something that only turns the screen on when a direction is coming up. Makes perfect sense, but nothing I've tried has done this. I use Google, Here & Waze. It's silly the screen stays on if you got no directions for 50 miles of straight freeway driving. What OP's asking should be a standard feature imho.

I know an app I've used in the past had this feature. I can't seem to find it again but I'll keep searching.

Edit: try Scout. There's an option in the settings to only turn the backlight on at turns, which might be close enough to what you want

Yeah thats what I was thinking too. Would be a great option to save battery also.

I will check out Scout. Thanks

I'm pretty sure Google Maps does do this, but only when your phone's battery is at a low level. That is, it dims your screen between turns it doesn't completely go off. Would be a fairly useful feature.

I think that the back light settings in Copilot will do that but I must admit to never trying, I always have my phone plugged in in the car.

Looked at Google maps and it has a setting under navigation settins that "get eta when connected to Bluetooth". Which ok but what if im not connected or dont want to be?

Downloaded Co-pilot to try it out..
