Google Maps and Katrina

I don't know if anyone here has seen this (search for google maps katrina), but google maps now has a Katrina button.

Here is a link of New Orleans with the Katrina button selected, centered over the SuperDome. If you click between the normal satellite and hybrid, and Katrina, you can see the devastation.

Thanks.

Here's a shot centered on my parents' and grandmother's neighborhood.

EDIT: Google beta products suck...the link doesn't zoom in as tight as what I'm trying to link...the freakin' flooded area is what I'm trying to point out.

I remember going to CAWorld at the Ernest Morial Convention center when I was working at CA. Same convention center thats housing all the folks right now.

The new pics sure are dark, they should have taken them during the brightest part of the day, not at dusk or something...

Uh...the parts that are dark are dark becuase they're covered in water. Either that or you need a new monitor!

Actually, from what I've seen.. I have my monitors brightness up higher than most, lol..

hmm.. I guess that must just be what it is then.. too much light being absorbed by the water.

Edit: Nah.. there is something funky with the brightness.

Look at areas with no water, switch between satellite and the Katrina pics..

it says right at the top right they were taken at 10 am

It does so much to have a visual of the damage, perspective of the whole thing.

Hit me as hard as the last time I saw one of these images (during the Tsunami in SE Asia).

Incidentally, Bungie is selling a t-shirt with all proceedings going to the Red Cross. Click HERE
