Good stuff. Of course the apps *with* it already tend to have tons of downvotes mentioning the annoyware, but it saves people some research I guess.

Still it means Google is getting serious about curating the Play Store and that's a good thing :)

Great news! I actually had to install a SECOND app called "Addons Detector" because I got an Airpush-like ad that wasn't actually Airpush. I hope they are going to kill ALL notification ads, not just ones specifically from Airpush. EDIT: Looks like they are, excellent.

I'm glad Google is willing to set a few reasonable limits on apps. I just hope they don't go too far in trying to control what's on the Play Store, but they'd have to go a long way to be as restrictive as iOS.

Hmmm...I wouldn't jump to that conclusion too quickly.
The new policies seem to control for ad quality instead of the functionality of the ads, hence "ad context" in the new policy. Ads that mimic system notifications like "battery levels" and "messages" probably will be screened.

We may not get that much spam any more, but the formats of the ad probably won't change much. Airpush and other networks should still be monetizing devs.

You are right - this is not the end of Airpush. If you read closely to Googles new policy it is not banning notification ads - but any mimic of system messages such as "battery low" etc will not be allowed. I spoke with an Airpush account manager the other day who informed me they are in full compliance with googles policies and are in fact releasing a new SDK in the next week. Lets see what they are going to offer.

Not airpush, but I installed some game from the top free list the other day, and it proceded to litter my homescreen with shortcuts to various websites. Promptly uninstalled it.
